Default Re: "Online services" vs "automatic updates"

I found out how to change the password.

Account List/Right mouse on account/Choose "See Account Settings".
At the very bottom is a link Change bank or brokerage passwords. There was
the list of my accounts, with password boxes for the brokerage account, and
another link "edit user ID or password" for the two that had empty spaces in
the "Update Online Information" window. When I clicked on one of the links,
it opened a window that said "Getting Account Information." The problem is
that when it was all done, that institution had "update failed" next to all
of its accounts instead of "last updated 12/12/2005," and the "Update now"
window had no passwords next to it. I didn't attempt to update, but
repeated the process (mostly to get all the steps right for this e-mail),
and when I finished, the accounts were back at "last updated 12/12/2005."
Still no password in the Update Now window.
Very confusing.

Is there an interdependency between setting/unsetting these institutional
passwords and turning the passport on and off?

Actually, they don't have password boxes at all, even when they are checked.
It's just empty space in the area where my brokerage firm's "Password:
[___________]" appears.

Click AccountList-> UpdateNow. That should bring up a box that says
Update Online Information at the top. I expect that the two accounts
that do not ask you for the password have asterisks for the
password. Clear those boxes out. Click Update.

When prompted for the passwords, do not select to have Money
remember the passwords.

If you want to remove the Passport from a file you may have to turn
off background banking at
Tools-> Settings-> AccessYourMoneyDataOnTheWeb and then
File-> PasswordManager you can choose to remove your Passport.

None of my 3 banks have "3rd party," but I'm not sure how your advice
explains the fact that 1 of my banks (actually my brokerage firm) requires a
password for me to update, while the other two do not. When I set up the
accounts, I thought that requiring a password would prevent automatic or
background updates. It would allow me to update only when I chose the
"update" option. That's the situation I want, but I can't figure out how to
make the two banks look/behave like the brokerage accoutn.

I think my question is how do I remove the passport from my Money file? I
can't figure out how, in the Money interface, to do this.

That was asking if you were using Microsoft Money.

I was not asking the other thing. You had mentioned MSN, so I was
wondering if you were using Microsoft Money.

Use http://www.microsoft.com/money/bankonline.aspx to check your
financial institutions. If any say "third party" in the description,
Money will only download the transactions if you have a Passport on
your file. Otherwise you can remove the Passport from your Money
file.

The icon says "Microsoft Money 2006". Help/About says "Microsoft Money 2006
Standard Edition." But I'm wondering if you're asking if I'm allowing my
files to be saved on a "central" server, accessible from other computers.
That's what I want to stop. I think that's what's going on with some of my
accounts, because I'm not required to enter a password when I update them.

Are you using Microsoft Money or MSN Money (MoneyCentral)?

Default "Online services" vs "automatic updates"

I have set up accounts at 3 institutions. One of them requires a password
for updates (in other words, I have not allowed MSN to save my password),
which is what I want (prevents automatic updating). The other two do not.
The password appears to have been saved, and updates occur automatically. I
can't figure out how to set those entries to require user entered passwords
for updates. Can someone help?
