Typically MS produce the version for year n about August in year n-1, but
this can vary by a couple of months either way. So we "may" see M2007 in
August 2006.

When will MS Money 2007 be available? It's not even 2006 yet!

While I couldn't say what might happen on a future product, having
Standard of year N+1 not being able to convert a Deluxe file of year
N would be a very unexpected break with tradition.

Thank you for the chart reference. It looks like the only difference to me
is the length of the free (but not toll-free) technical services. Not a big
deal.

But I am not sure from your answer that I was clear in one of my questions.
Will I be able to use my 2006 Deluxe data file in Money 2007 Standard. (Or
without speculating, can one convert from US Money 2005 Deluxe to US Money
2006 Standard using the same .mny file.)

Be aware that the extra Premium features refer to bundled web
services.

I would expect Money 2007 standard to convert a Money 2006 file.

Note that you can have Money 2006 and an earlier version installed
at the same time, as long as you don't have Money 2006 uninstall the
older one; pay attention during the install. You could make a copy
of your current file named mb2006.mny and let Money convert that.
Your old install could open your exiting file, and you could try
both for a while.

File associations are with the newest install, but they can be
changed back if you decide to do so.

Default Deluxe vs. Standard

What does Money Deluxe offer that Standard does not? I have looked for a
chart on the MS website and in the FAQs but haven't found any.

I have been using Money Standard Edition since I originally got it free from
my bank in 1996. However, I only use it to keep track of assets (Checking,
Savings, Mutual Funds, other investments, mortgage, etc.), keep track of
transactions (same as above), and track and make bill payments. I enter all
my transactions manually and use the downloads to match them. I do not use
Yodlee or MSN (on-line bill pay and transaction downloads are through the
bank's system). I do not have a Passport account. I do not track anything
by categories (except for tax related expenses); do not track credit card
charges; never use the budgets or planners and have no interest in doing so.

Every year I buy Tax Cut to prepare my taxes and get a free (after rebate)
edition of Money Standard with it. This year, I see that some stores are
offering Money Deluxe as the freebie. (The only difference in cost between
the two is the additional 84¢ tax that I'd have to pay on the higher
pre-rebate purchase).

So, is there any reason for me to go for Deluxe? And, if I purchase Deluxe
2006 does past history indicate that I will most likely be able to transfer
my data to 2007 Standard (for only the standard features, of course) if they
don't make the same deal next year and I'm not impressed enough with the
Deluxe version to pay the extra $10-30 for it?
