| I installed both Quicken and Money a few weeks ago because my bank was going to stop making transactions available beyond two months. For a while both seemed to be equally recalcitrant, due in some part to the fact that different banks require different methods for updating but that isn't explained anywhere. Yesterday, though, I finally worked through the last of the Quicken problems and am still left with a plethora of Money problems. I'm going to uninstall Money soon. Thank you all for your help. Microsoft was, as you would expect, no help - claiming I was the only one that ever reported anything wrong with Money. Back to quicken - and maybe Excel for me. I can't afford to make decisions based on $110k worth of errornous data. Software seems like junk to me. |

Investment Activities. Right-clicking in the Portfolio view is one way. Make sure there is no Add Shares there. If so, delete/void it. I suggest not allowing Money to "update your account to match the statement" when offered. Instead use any discrepancy between the downloaded "Statement Quantity and the "Account Quantity" as something that may be only a temporary discrepancy while the data base gets consistent, or check the transactions to see if there are any missing or duplicated. Unfortunately there is no way to make the radio-button to default to "No, do not update my account. I will make any necessary changes myself." - quote - > T. | I found that there was a transaction for the same amount as the Buy and Sell, but this was a "Remove Transactions." I found it in a backup copy. I don't believe it was in the data I was looking at. I figured all would be well if I edited that transaction to change "Remove Transaction" to "Sell." But that didn't change the total. Is there anything to do to refresh or re-total an account besides "Update" and "Read Statement?" | My accuracy and first opportunity capture is not 100% by any means. But I know this going in and cross-check the data fairly rigorously. My guess would be that for each 100 transactions entered on the first opportunity I miss or mis-type or enter in the wrong account or whatever maybe 2 or 3. The number of transactions I enter from scheduled items is probably a huge contributor to accuracy/capture. | It is a relatively rare event, but easy to correct. It did not make the program off limits for me, and in fact the issue improved with further useage. Rarely happens now, but I do have continual frustration with money market funds and cash accounts, that require cash add and balance adjustments. Some brokerages do it one way, and osme another, so M06 has trouble with downlaoading form some and not others and keeping track. Once a week I add or subtract ash as necessary to make it work. The occasional error is gong to happen with a $20 program and all the variables that must be confronted with a myriad of banks and systems. Define rare. I am not shocked, but downloading is still way more> for failures like this? Or do you all thinkg this is a rare event and not > to worry? accurate than *me* entering transactions by hand-- but probably not as accurate as Dick entering them by hand. You check the cash balances. If they match, be happy. If not, figure out what is missing or duplicated. - quote - > "Cal Learner" <NoMailTnx[at]please.com> wrote in message > news:qr0co1p8lvn02e7v1fvi3tml930s076qka[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, Laurel wrote: > > > > what to do about it? > > > Enter the Sell. |

| On Nov 23 I sold 17,000 worth of one mutual fund and bought 17,000 of another. This shows up correctly in my Schwab account, but my Money account only shows the "buy" transaction, thus the total for the account is 17,000 off (approxomately, given changes in market value for all of the positions.) I have "Updated" and "Read Statement" several times. What gives? This is really scary. What about other mistakes that might not be so glaring, and hence would go unnoticed? |
