You are right. Those are in %.- quote - > I've been using appreciation as a proxy for unrealized gains but it really
Price appreciation does not include dividends, but the Gain column> doesn't balance, and I can't for the life of me figure out why... does. Neither of those are for the last year, however. - quote - > Seems like there has to be a way to do this. I can't be the first person to
I think you might be.> want to balance net worth with income and expenses... |

| Good feedback - thanks. I have the same strategy and account for all my activity too. I think you're right...the net worth calculation is accurate - at least I have no reason to doubt it. I'm just looking for a way to drill down on what changed over the period. Let me ask it this way...Is there a way to total up unrealized gains for a given period? I've only seen reports that total it from the date of purchase of the asset until an "as-of" date. I cannot discern the unrealized gain/loss over the last year, for example. Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ian "Steve" wrote: - quote - > Ian, net worth is the total of all the asset accounts less the total of > all the liability accounts. | Ian, net worth is the total of all the asset accounts less the total of all the liability accounts. That's the way Money looks at it. I account for all my activity and find the net worth report accurately reflects my net worth because I make sure everything is included. I don't think a income less expense basis will work in money. I doubt it will be what you want, but it is available. To get to the Account Transactions report later versions is under the Income and Expenses heading. |

| Thanks for the response. From what I can tell, the net worth report just totals up account balances. I'm trying to reconcile Money much like you would a bank account: Previous net worth + changes = current net worth. I'd like to be able to get it to balance and then obviously drill down on the changes. | I'm trying to do a simple reconciliation of my finances for the current year. Basically, the structure would look something like this: Net Worth 12/31/2004 + Income (including realized gains) for current year 2005 - Expenses for current year + Unrealized gains (losses) for current year = Net worth as of today Does this make sense? Does anyone know of a report that can provide this and have it balance, or alternatively, where I can pull the numbers from to have it balance? I've tried different reports and I've tried pulling numbers from Money. But, I can't find a pre-defined report or seem to get the numbers to balance and haven't been able to find anything in the FAQs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Ian |
