| Cal, I am pleased to report that your IE security settings is right on target. Creating a new user and logging in under that account worked. Unfortunately in my haste to try it, I failed to try first the resetting of my IE Security options under my normal login. I suspect that would have done the trick. Some service pack or update along the way must have altered the settings because I went back to check after returning to my normal login and they are all "custom" settings..... although I am going to compare the settings to those that exist on my notebook and machine at work. Thanks for your help. | As to the why would anyone....? I dunno. I was thinking "convenience" but there was certainly a false economy on that score. Staples is a whopping 4 miles away..... I won't do it again, I promise. |

| It's not a fierwall issue as I don't have any SW firewall except MS's installed. On one system that downloaded properly I had disabled it and the MS Spyware servce. On the second successful system I deliberately did not disable either and that second successful client was behind the Linksys(home) router. I cannot exclude an IE security (mis)setting or permissions issue although my std login is a member of admins, so I will try that and let you know. Rgds and thanks, Marty |

| I'll add one: Microsoft offers it so directly and you do not know the downside implications of taking them up on their offer--i.e., why you might want to actually store the CD--and do not realize how that offer compares with your other alternatives. Do you have a software firewall or Norton installed on the problemmachine? In some cases uninstalling Norton has been reported to allow installation to proceed where disabling Norton did not. In IE6, I would set Tools-> Options-> Security-> LocalIntranet-> DefaultLevel which may be sufficient. If that does not let you updated, and if you are using XP, I would try creating a new user with Administrator privilege. Switch to that user and start Money with a new blank file. Let Money download the updates as that user. The theory is that if the problem is an IE6 setting, you will get default settings for the new user. If you succeed this way, it would accomplish the download, and it would point toward the reason the other did not work. You can delete the new user later, and your regular IE6 settings will not have been changed. |

| Diagnostic update - I installed the web download on my machine at work and everything was fine (older Dell 350 workstation). It found the passport and converted properly from trial to premium. I intalled the web download on my notebook (IBM X31) and everything was fine. It found the passport and converted properly from trial to premium. The notebook was behind the same linksys router and cable connection as the machine that won't convert. The only other uncontrolled variable that I could think of is that the machine that won't convert (Dell XPS) had had the OEM (Dell) version of Money 2004 installed. On that basis I did an uninstall and reinstall. The uninstall took about 1 sec and left the installation intact so that you could go to the executable directory and still run it. I think it just removed the shortcut from the start menu. I uninstalled it a second time, combed through the registry and deleted every key that had the string "money" in it that was related to the software and deleted all the executable directories. Then I reinstalled it from the web download. At least this time I got the prompt that said "Thank you for your purchase........blah, blah, blah ... money will now download..... blah, blah, blah." I though I was done. I never received the prompt saying the download was done and I let the machine sit there for about three hours. It would be nice to be able to use my home computer for this but I am at a loss and unless someone knows where all the reg keys are that may not have the string "money" in them but control this behavior. The only other thing that just struck me is dual core compatability (the two machines that it worked on were not dual core "hyperthreading"). If anyone has any thoughts I am still all ears. |

| To the absolute best of my ability Cal. The account appears to be alive as it shows as: Microsoft Money 2006 Premium Upgrade (one-time charge of $67.95 plus tax) Status: Enabled So there is no issue there. I have removed the passport, readded the passport, created a new file and added the passport to no avail. I get the trial reminder screen on every start. I am about to go to remote to my desktop at work and install the trial then try to log into my acount and see if it upgrades through a PIX, to get the home linksys router out of the circuit. | I have exactly the same problem. Only one passport account, firewall turned off, all dscretionary programs and services not running. Have tried everything short of an uninstall and reinstall. | Any advice on what to do when the steps listed below do not work? When I open a new Money file it still shows that I'm using a trail version that will expire in 90 days. I have verified that my passport account matches to the one used when I purchased Money online (I only have one passport account). | Please help my with my frustration. I'm sure there's something simple I'm missing but cannot find it. I've been running Money 2005 for a while. I purchased it online which created something called a Money 2005 Service which I can see when I log into Microsoft Billing. I decided to try Money 2006. I purchased it and downloaded it and installed it on a different computer. I tried it out and decided I wanted to use it for all my finances. I uninstalled it from that computer. I ran the downloaded file on my original computer, and it uninstalled Money 2005 and installed Money 2006. It runs fine, but shows that it is a trial version. I can see both my Money 2005 and Money 2006 services are active in my Billing account, but I cannot figure out how to make Money 2006 "active." What is frustrating is that usually when you buy software to download, your receipt shows how to download the product again. The setup routine even shows a message stating that I can download it again free of charge, but doesn't say how. I cannot find anyway to download my purchased product. I've paid $60.00, but can only run the trial version. What should I do??? Thanks, Ron |
