| Many users are still using M05 and prior versions. What do you mean it "only works" for two years? What are you going to use instead? How's it going so far? | Microsoft has taken to viewing Money kinda like the cable companies view their channels. They just want something--anything, really, it doesn't matter what works--that will be bait to some set of the population to draw viewers' eyes to view paying advertisers' messages. | It may get worse and probably will never get better: http://news.com.com/Microsoft+eyes+a...3-5954406.html Not that this article has Microsoft whining: "worldwide sales of full packaged software--which includes Works, the Encarta encyclopedia, digital imaging software and Money--dropped by 7 percent in fiscal year 2004. In addition, the company said it was seeing similar trends for fiscal 2005." Nowhere did they mention the fact that at least some people explicitly avoided M05 not out of lack of desire to buy a better product but because it surely wasn't better by any measure. | The ads and ad links in Money are irritating, I agree. However, it is not enough to not use the program. They put the ads because they can, just like you pay for cable, but still see tv ads. I don't believe they sell any of your information. | Thanks for the info. It is discouraging. You try to be the honest customer only using legally licensed software in support of your vendor, not pirating it out to other users, then Microsoft stabs you by sneaking in marketing on software that you bought & paid for. Who's the "Pirate" now? How does this speak to Microsoft's integrity? Do they also use your personal financial information - or worse yet - do they sell it to other parties? It's not that big of a deal. They are not anything that have like a video you are forced to watch before you can look at your account, and they're not popups. If you don't want them, don't click the links. Like the Insurance home page - there is a button that directs the web browser to some insurance quote sites. The Banking home page has a "Related Links" area in the left column with "Check out Loan Rates" and "Get Free Insurance Quotes". There's nothing sneaky about them, so I don't even consider them an annoyance. Now, the day they start forcing me to watch ads, bye-bye MS Money. Much like the NFL.com live scoring does now - every so often, the curren play drive window turns into a commercial video ad. I change to a different game, it's very annoying. If that happened in something I was actually paying for, I would be very PO'd. But they already show commercials before movies now, so I'm sure it's coming. Vasiliy Zaitsev PGP Key: 0xF8F5619A |
