| yeah I think the file size thing would be an issue if they embed. But I don't think that would make sense. I would like to know what Quicken does here but to me a link would be better. The scanner already does a good job with the ocr on my checks. That data gets stored with the image. From there the MSN desktop search will index it. Thats why having an iFilter against Money would almost be as good or a even better solution. In fact, now that I've thought about it, I'm off the this bandwagon completely. I want them to just allow for desktop search indexing. Dick Watson wrote: - quote - > I am unmoved by your defense of this requirement. YMMV. | I am unmoved by your defense of this requirement. YMMV. Certainly you are not the first to ask this here. I do find it cryptic that people think entering transaction data is too hard but would consider firing up the scanner just to capture an image for lots of transactions. These people are also probably the people that complain about the size of their Money file and all of the subsidiary issues that size creates. I suspect if you'd used Money for a while you'd agree that there are higher priority issues and requirements. | I think this is important. It's not trash for sure. Already you can scan documents in and have the MSN/google desktop search apps index it. I do this for paychecks and some other things. I would like to link them directly to Money somehow. It's important if you've ever lost that kind of documentation in a fire or some kind of disaster - the names katrina and rita come to mind (offsite backup is a different problem and easy to solve). Plus being able to search/view it a my fingertips is exact thing computers should be good at. It wouldn't take the Money and MSN teams a ton of code to do this after the security and usability issues get worked out. For the stuff I've setup here I would at least like the MSN search to index my money file. Then you could search on a paycheck and have both the Money entry and the actual image returned in the result set. This would also prevent the Money file from growing huge with each document you attach. I guess how does Quicken do it? Do they just still a link to the file somewhere or do they embed it? Anyway, I think this is a great feature request and with all the desktop search efforts it's time. | In order: No. Probably now that Quicken has it, despite at least some of us who would just as soon see Money solve Real, Important stuff before working on this kind of flash-and-trash feature. | Quicken 2006 allows the saving of attachments to specific transactions. Does Money 2006 have this functionality? If not do you see this in the near future? |
