Default Re: MS06 Loan and Autopayment Setup

Configure the loan payment in bills so it posts automatically to your
checking account a day or two before you expect the payment to actually hit.
(By post, I mean record. The posting date doesn't have to be advanced.)

Download the checking account. When the transaction comes in, it may link to
that transaction automatically. If not, click the 'Change' button on the
transaction and then match to the existing transaction. Once you've done
that, subsequent transactions may do that automatically.

You describe it as a "category/loan/student_loan". Did you actually set up a
loan? Or is it simply an expense category. Either is valid, but a loan
account is a better model of your net worth. It shows what you owe as a
liability, not simply what you paid as an expense.

I also note your use of "_" as a space holder. This ain't UNIX or oracle.
Money doesn't mind spaces in category or account names.

Default MS06 Loan and Autopayment Setup

I'm a bit confused...

Using MSMoney 2006.

I set-up a Student Loan ($50,000)
I have an automatic Checking Account deduction each month ($250)
I automatically download my Checking Account info in Money.

I setup an automatic bill that "pays from" my checking account and is a
"category/loan/student_loan".

The problem I am having is that when Money connects to my bank, it
downloads the automatic debit. How do I reclassify this debit so that
it doesn't get double counted as an expense (I tried to "transfer" it
to the Loan, but then it gets double credited)?

Thanks--DSV
