Default Re: Default Transaction Type

Well, now at least I understand the problem.

Unfortunately, I can't fix it, because I am running 05 and the only dropdown
boxes are buttons called Common Transactions and Options, neither of which
seem to be the one you're talking about, and neither of which I have ever
used. All I ever do is tab through Date, Payee, Amount, & Category -- Done.

I hope someone who has 03 will come on & look at it for you. Sorry.

I'm not sure why no one understands what I'm saying. The only thing I can do
is provide a step by step, in depth explanation. So here goes:

1. I launch the program. (Microsoft Money 2003)

2. When the program opens, I am looking at my checking account registry. On
the upper right hand corner, the 'Show Transaction Forms' box is checked.

3. At the bottom of the screen is the transaction form showing 3 tabs:
'Withdrawal', 'Deposit' and 'Transfer'. The 'Withdrawal' tab has
been selected by default.

4. Immediately below the 'Withdrawal' tab is a button labelled 'New'. I
click the
'New' button and this is where problem starts.

5. On the right hand side of the 'Withdrawal' dialog box there are three
drop
down menus. The topmost one is labelled 'Number:' In the box to the right
hand side of it appears the word 'Temporary'.

When I first installed the program the word 'Debit' appeared in the box in
step 5 by default. Since I created the 'Temporary' entry it has become the
default. I would prefer to have 'Debit' as the default and I have no idea how
to change it back. Once again, I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Default Re: Default Transaction Type

I don't understand either. I use transaction forms, and they are on three
tabs at the bottom of the register: withdrawal, deposit, or transfer. They
are slightly different for different types of accounts, e.g., in the Cash
account they are spend, receive, and transfer. I don't think the tabs can be
edited, and choosing one determines the transaction type.

At any rate, every transaction, whether "temporary" or otherwise, either
adds money to your total, deducts it from your total, or moves it around
among your accounts without affecting your total. There really aren't any
other choices, so the three tabs never need to be edited.

Finally, what does entering the check number have to do with the transaction
type?

I think we are probably using different terminology to describe functions of
the program. Have you looked at the online help at all? If, for example, you
enter "transaction types" in the search box, you will get a pretty good idea
of what Money means by that term, which is almost certainly something
different than you had in mind.

Please try again to explain what you are trying to do. We really are
interesting in helping you, but we just can't quite grasp your issue.

Thanks for the reply. I'm talking about when you open the register and enter
a new transaction. It used to default to 'Debit' as the type of transaction,
then you could pick 'Next Check Number' or whatever you wanted from the drop
down menu, or manually type in a new transaction type.

This is where my problem started. After manually entering 'Temporary' the
first time, 'Debit' is no longer the default for a new transaction. Being
that the most common transaction I enter is a debit, this is annoying to have
to make a change in the drop down menu each time I start entering
transactions.

More annoying is if I enter many debits and I forgot to change 'Temporary'
to 'Debit' first. I then have to go back and edit each entry. This is why I
need to find out how to change it back to the way it originally was.

Thanks again.

I'm thoroughly confused, too. What's a default transaction type? Are you
talking about Payee? Are you talking about stuff that gets entered in the
fields when you start a new transaction?

Default Default Transaction Type

I am using Money 2003. It used to be that 'Debit' was the default transaction
type in my checking account register. At one point I needed to create a
different transaction type named 'Temporary'. Now that I did this 'Temporary'
has become the default, which is very inconvenient. How do I reset it back to
'Debit'?

I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thank you.
