Default Re: network money 2006

Thank you for the information. I will continue doing it as I did previously
with backing it up and then restoring it on the other computer.

Thanks again.

Yes and no. Further, it depends.

Money will use data files over network shares. But you have to be VERY
careful as Money is not at all graceful about doing so with both systems
accessing the file at the same time. See
http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=111. There are performance limitations since
Money makes very many very small disk accesses and these don't work well
over the network--particularly WiFi. I have found that Remote Desktop
Connection works better, but not everybody has the WinXP Pro it takes to do
it. (RDC enables me to just log into the other system and run Money on it
from remotely.)

Money also supports something they call "File Sharing" that they try to make
sound like it shares your data file with other machines. This is absolutely
***not*** what it does. It puts a subset of your data on and MSN web server,
lets a list of Passport users see it on an MSN web site, and provides a
mechanism to sync their changes back into the local data file. See also the
recent thread "MSMoney 2006 file on network".
