| - quote - > synchronization. Just before that line in the 2005 one (not got the 2006 one
It does give you the option to turn off internet-based services but, of> at hand) it says though you can turn it off. If they didn't put that in, > then there would be a problem in that they need to do it. course, it is not clear how that will cripple the program because just about everything you want to do today is connected to the internet. If I turn it off, does that mean I can't get to my investment provider, etc? It's not clear what is affected. - quote - > The EULA doesn't cover Microsoft's license or obligation (it's for the end
As you said, the EULA doesn't cover this but it does release MS from any> user) - i can't see anything that would specifically allow them to spray the > information across the net, as they would be bound by privacy laws, and > would probably explicity require something in the EULA to allow them, which > there isn't. liability for the program (as is typical for the industry). There may be privacy restrictions but they are not covered in the EULA being agreed to. - quote - > When speaking to the Microsoft Money people, their obligation on data
I agree, which is why I accepted the license and continued. However, the> protection is something they really take very seriously. The have other very > tight licenses with third parties etc. EULA is clearly written to protect Microsoft and not me or my personal info. Most of the EULA is standard, but I don't like the internet-based portion of it. At all. I almost didn't continue past the license. I don't like that the functionality ends in two years. I don't even know what functionality that affects - I don't see a FAQ that details specifically what functionality is affected. I do know that Microsoft takes privacy seriously, but I would suggest that EULA be modified to reference privacy restrictions. Thanks for the comments. I upgraded from Money 2004 and while there are things I'd like to change and some bugs I'd like to stomp, it really is a good program overall. |

| I think you're correct in implying that the EULA, how it is written, is for synchronization. Just before that line in the 2005 one (not got the 2006 one at hand) it says though you can turn it off. If they didn't put that in, then there would be a problem in that they need to do it. The EULA doesn't cover Microsoft's license or obligation (it's for the end user) - i can't see anything that would specifically allow them to spray the information across the net, as they would be bound by privacy laws, and would probably explicity require something in the EULA to allow them, which there isn't. When speaking to the Microsoft Money people, their obligation on data protection is something they really take very seriously. The have other very tight licenses with third parties etc. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org/ Check http://money.mvps.org/faq/ for tips and fixes for MS Money. | I just read the EULA on my new copy of Money 2006 and noticed a clause that reads "These features send to Microsoft information which may include, but is not limited to, account names, financial transactions, payees, budget limits and alert settings. By using these features, you consent to Microsoft’s collection of this information. Examples of these Internet-Based Services are Accounts, Bills, and Budget." WHAT???!!!! I realize that this is probably required in order to support the synchronization and web access to your account in Money and other things but it was still a stunner and Microsoft's nice EULA holds them completely blameless if they spray your private info across the net. Not that they intend to. I hope. Your access to these internet-based features also expires in 2 years, forcing you to continue upgrading. Just so you know... |
