It's in the data files. Just like the Sample.MNY file. Have you done a Start|Search of all drives for files of type Microsoft Money or whatever it lists them as? |

| Hi Dick: The Money 98 program and the Money.mny file were copied over from my old computrer to to the new one by the company I bought the new computer from; no, the CD was not used to do this. Yes I can open the Sample.MNY file OK. When I open Windows Explorer Window, Tools|Folder|Options and edit Microsoft Money file type it says it is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\msmoney.exe" %1, which p[resumably indicates it is not a .MNY file. When you said, "You might also want to go into a Windows , and go set the option to see the extension on what you think is the data file just long enough to figure out what it is," I could not seem to follow that instruction. On the file type edit page for MSMONEY, I tried to invoke the "Always show extension," but the only extension that appeared was the word "Application". If it is possible to make a copy of my MSMONEY file and change the extension to read .MNY instead of .exe, would I be able to restore the file so I can access it and retrieve all the info stored in that file? If that is OK, how do I change the extension on that file since it does not show up in my Windows directory except as an "application" file Thanks in advance for your help, Duncan "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:e4H6JXDzFHA.2312[at]TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... - quote - > How was M98 installed on the new machine? | How was M98 installed on the new machine? From the CD? Can it open its own Sample file? (Money File|Open and navigate to the directory where Money was installed (typically something like c:\program files\microsoft money or similar) and look for a Sample.MNY file.) How did the "files [you] have for transactions" get on the new machine? You might also want to go into a Windows Explorer Window, Tools|Folder Options, and go set the option to see the extension on what you think is the data file just long enough to figure out what it is. | Hi: I purchased a new computer and went from Windows ME to Windows XP Home. Money 98 was on the old computer and was installed on the new one. However, when I ask to open the files I have for transactions, it will not bring them up. It says the files must be .mny files. I cannot tell what the file suffix is, other than it says it is an "application" file. Can you help me. Thanks, Duncan |
