Not sure why this person is attempting to reinstall Money2000 but he
may run into an additional problem - it appears that MS servers no
longer supply the updates needed to bring a Money 2000 install to the
final (patched) version.

I recently got a new PC which came with Money 2005. Big mistake!
There are just so many things that don't work right for a Canadian
user like myself that after a few weeks I uninstalled the 2005 version
and went back to Money 2000 (the last Canadian version MS truly
supported).

After removing Money2005 and installing Money2000 from the original
disks I got two error message on attempting to "Update Internet
Information". I don't remember the exact messages, but they were
something like 'updates not available on server'.

As I still had my old machine, I was able to compare the directories
and registry setting and found a number of files on my "old" PC with
later dates than the new, and a number of missing registry values.

What I finally had to do was to overwrite the money program files
directory with a backup of the directories from the old machine, and
then insert the missing registry values by hand: under
HKEY_USERS\ . . . \Software\Microsoft\Money\8.0\Online\LastUpdate
(there were three values here LastAttempt, LastSuccess, fipartnr.ini.
I had to add the following copied from the old PC

headline.cab 19991123
announce.cab 19991123
xlshtm.cab 19991206
qperm.exe 19990915
ThirdPtyCount 00000000 0

(Suggest anyone trying this should use the values on their own
previous configuration rather than using mine as they may be different
between US/US/Can std/dlx, etc.)

Hope that any user trying to install Money2000 has either their old
machine or a good backup of the working software before attempting a
reinstall.

Boot using F8 as you do to get to safe mode, but make a different
selection in the process. Instead of "MS-DOS mode", the mode you
want may be called "command mode" or "recovery console".

Default Re-installing Money 2000

Atempting to reinstall Money. How can I get to the computer to restart in
MS-DOS mode to attempt this solution suggested by Microsoft: There is no such
shut down option under Start in Windows XP. :

When you attempt to install Microsoft Money 2000, you may receive the
following error message
Setup cannot run while program is running. Please save your work and close
this program before continuing with setup.
where program is Systray, Login, or some other program.
CAUSE
One or more programs that are running in the background are interfering with
the installation of Money.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, stop all other programs that are interfering with
Money. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following
steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product
documentation to complete these steps.
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. In the list of programs, click Microsoft Money if it is listed, and then
proceed to remove the program from your computer.
4. Insert the Money CD in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Double-click My
Computer. Click to select the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click Open on
the File menu. If the Setup program starts, quit Setup.
5. Click to select the Money folder on the CD, and then click Copy on the
Edit menu.
6. Right-click a blank space on your desktop, and then click Paste on the
shortcut menu.

Microsoft Windows copies the Money folder from the CD to your hard disk
drive. This will let you run the installation from within Windows Safe Mode.
7. After Windows is finished copying the folder, quit all programs.
8. Click Start, and then click Shut Down. Click Restart in MS-DOS mode, and
then click OK.
9. After the computer restarts, type the following at the command prompt,
and press ENTER:
Win /d:m
10. After Windows starts in Safe Mode, open the Money folder on the desktop,
and double-click the Setup program to reinstall Money.
