Default Re: Register Shows Negative Balances

The problem lies with the secondary sort, which when you sort by date, I
believe is the Num column. In that column numbered entries are sorted
before text entries. If you have a Deposit and withdrawal on the same day
and the deposit is coded as (say) DEP and the withdrawal is a check number,
the check will go before the deposit, which could cause your temporary
negative balance. The same would happen if the withdrawal was coded as
Debit and the deposit as DEP. You can either live with the occasional
temporary negative balance (as I do) or do one of the following to make the
deposit appear first:
* fudge the transaction date
* remove the coding for the deposit (have the number field as blank) This
will cause the deposit to appear first for that date. Note that I haven't
tested what happens when the withdrawal is a transfer (where the number
field is always blank).
* if both transactions have a text code, rename the code so that the
withdrawal is after the deposit.

Default Register Shows Negative Balances

Using MNY2003 Deluxe on XPpro.

While viewing my checkbook register, the Balance column is showing
negative (red within parenthesis) balances. This began, I think,
after I did some sorting by clicking on various register column
headings.

Any suggestions/thoughts about what went wrong and how to fix?

I am certain that my running balance(s) have not fallen below zero
going back as far as July in year 2004. The negative balances show up
within (R)econciled transactions as well "E" and "C" transactions.

Thanks.
