One other thing I forgot to add. In money if you are all ready tracking
your 401k you are going to have to make some adjustment, because now your
401k is going to be less the loan amount. I started using money after I
had taken out the loan so my 401k amount all ready reflects that missing
amount. When I looked back at my statement money was taken from various
funds for the loan. So if you have access to your statement online or once
you receive it through the mail you can add these items as sell transactions
to each fund. My method works either way. You just have to reduce your
401k correctly.

I'm using Money 2006 Deluxe and I use this method until I understand Money
enough to do something more complex. I created a Loan account and set the
loan amount to the current amount of my 401k loan. I have been paying on
this for over a year. So there was no since using the full amount I took
out. My next paycheck I enter a transaction for the total amount that I
have deducted for my 401k Loan payment. I then go into the split categories
screen and enter my loan interest as a second category and also enter it in
as a negative amount. I then use the loan payment minus interest as what is
showing as the principal payment. I do this for my student loan and house
payment too.

Can't speak for Q. I suspect the issue here would be that the huge range of
plan rules and semantics would make it impossible to design some pre-canned
way to do this. Another part of the reason this is complicated to model in
Money is that it's complicated in real life.

WOW, that is a difficult process to follow. You'd think this would be a
requested option. Does Quicken have this functionality? (not that I'd
ever switch, Quicken is ugly!)

There are probably several ways this can be done. Try reading
http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=2 for an industrial strength version..
