I had this happen to me before. I think it happened when I tried to delete a scheduled bill. They don't really go away when you delete them. I saved the day most times by reverting to a backup copy of my file that predated the deletion. Then I used the "this bill will end at some point" method of getting rid of a scheduled bill I no longer wanted. I just used that trick to get rid of a stale bill a couple of days ago, it definitely works. - quote - > Not sure whether to got with the category fix or recreate my Money
I never tried the category fix. That sounds easier than recreating your> file, which is about 6 years old now. file. MSFT should definitely fix this problem after all these many years. If nothing else works, the export/import method of creating a new Money file definitely works but it takes quite a bit of time. Good luck Bill Wood |

| All, I suffer from the same "phantom" bill problem. I can tell you that the problem is NOT fixed in Money 2006. I haven't gotten around to trying the "recreate all your categories" solution that is mentioned elsewhere (search this newsgroup for "phantom bill"). Bill, I was encouraged by the possibility of your suggestion working. Unfortunately, when I go to the Budget summary, right-click the budget category, click Edit then select the offending thing from the list, clicking OK does _not_ open that bill for editing. Clicking OK simply dismisses the dialog. This seems to be core to the problem: The bill has gotten "lost" and is no longer editable. Not sure whether to got with the category fix or recreate my Money file, which is about 6 years old now. Tim |

NOT > impressed! > Thanks for any help, even if it's just a "Yep, me too!" bill from Bills and Deposits but the budget reports still show the budgeted amounts for that item anyway. If that is correct, here is how to fix it. Go into the budget summary (click budget icon) and right click the offending budget item. Choose edit, a dialog will appear called Edit Category. Select the incorrect item from the drop down list under A Bill in this category. There may be two or more items in the drop down list so make sure you select the rogue bill. Click ok. The deleted (rogue) bill pops up in the Edit Bills dialog. Now the tricky part. Check the box in front of "This series will end at some point in time". Put a date in the Date of final transaction box that is in the past. I usually use 12/31 of the previous year. Put zero in Number of transactions remaining. Finally put 12/31/xx, (the same date as This series will end at some point in time) in the Next due date box. Click ok.. The rogue bill should be gone. I have done this many times in Money 2002 and I think it will also work in 2004. Sometimes Money does not like the zero in Number of transactions remaining and changes it to one. Sometimes this prevents the bill from being eliminated. If this happens let one remain and try again. If the bill shows up on the Bills and Deposits list again you can manually enter it in the register as the final transaction and then manually delete it from the register. If you fiddle with the dates, this method will work. I have never failed to eliminate a rogue bill this way. I don't know if this issue has ever been fixed. MSFT tech support knows about it since I reported this bug back in 2002. Regards, Bill Wood Fountain Hills, AZ |

| Still have the phantom bill.. but managed to get the budget sorted eventually with the category fix - seems I didn't quite get it right the first time. Regardless of this - is it fixed in 2006? Now I've read all the newsgroup comments on phantom bills and duplicate budget entries it seems to have been a LONG standing issue that it's really about time Microsoft fixed! Thanks. |

| Hi all, I've got a problem in MS Money 2004 where there appears to be a rogue, ie. missing bill payment that is not displayed in the bills and payments listing but IS included in the budget. I have trawled user groups and the MS knowledge base for fixes and the category move for all historical transactions does not work in my case. I've also tried deleting past budgets but it makes no difference. There is still this one bill entry that when I try to edit it from the budget screen, no bill payment details come up - it's as if the program has lost the reference to it somehow. Has anyone else experienced this and have any idea: a) how to fix it? b) if it is fixed in 2006? Final comment - I tried to get online support from MS but the product ID is apparently invalid so it won't let me through to e-mail them. NOT impressed! Thanks for any help, even if it's just a "Yep, me too!" |
