It worked, it worked!!!

I didn't need a new Money for PPC installation file, after all. I
misunderstood your original post, I guess. The patch goes on the PC,
and requires a reinstall of Money for PPC on the PC only . . . I never
had to reinstall ANYTHING on the PPC.

Thank you. I'm not sure what I'm happier about . . . having Money on
my PPC, or having my PC working again (new power supply, new CPU
cooler, and cleaning the CPU real good with alcohol seems to have done
the trick there . . . )

Thanks,

JBK

JBK,

Try installing the m02ppcupdate.exe from the first link I gave on your
PC. As I had originally indicated it uninstalls the original version
so I'm not sure if you really needed it on your PC in the first place
or not. You definitely need the patch installed on your PPC and the
only way to do this is to install it on your PC first. Therefore,
definitely download it and install it before M05 for PPC.

Uninstall the Money for Pocket PC 2005 from your PC and install the
m02ppcupdate first. Connect to your PPC and let it install there.
Then reinstall M05 for PPC on your PC and then connect and let it fail
to your PPC.

Then try again with ActiveSync.

Default Re: Pocket PC Compatibility

Thank you for the reply. I am trying to implement this, but am running
into a completely unlrelated issue . . . HW issues with my PC!!

Here's what I have done . . .

Because I do not have the original CD for the Jornada (I bought it
used), I do not have the Money for PPC v1.0 installation disk.
However, this version was already installe on the Jornada. Hoping that
someone had already installed the Jornada SW patch, I followed the rest
of the instructions (putting Money for PPC 2005 on my PC, then ignoring
the warnings at sync). Didn't work. Although everything looked good,
I can't seem to enable Money syncing in ActiveSync. I've tried
rebooting . . . didn't work. I've tried syncing to see if it works
despite the ActiveSync messages . . . didn't work.

My assumption now is that the patch had NOT been previously installed
on the Jornada.

Now I've got to find Money for PPC v1.0 so I can reinstall it. Because
of my HW issues, I have not had a chance to do a good internet search,
but it does look like it is NOT available from Microsoft (I didn't see
it, anyway). Does anyone know where I can find it?

Thanks.

JBK,

You can indeed get Money on your PC and PPC syncing!

You'll need to have Money for PPC v1 on your Jornada. If this is
already on your device, you may need to reinstall it if its not also on
your PC. However, later in this procedure it will be uninstalled from
your PC so not sure if you really need to do this. If it is not on
your device you should be able to find it on the CD(s) that came with
your device.

If you're installing this for the first time, you'll need to connect to
your device after installation in order for it to be installed on the
device. You'll be instructed to do this as a function of the PC
install however.

Once this is installed to the PPC you will also need to install the
PocketPC update m02ppcupdate.exe available from the following link:

http://money.mvps.org/downloads/add-...2ppcupdate.exe

This update permitted Pocket PC 2000 (Windows CE 3) devices to sync
with Money for Pocket PC 2002 (and beyond, though unsupported).

If Money for PPC v1 is already on your PC, when you first install the
update you'll be prompted to let it uninstall Money for PPC from your
PC. Accept the uninstall prompt.

Once the update is installed on your PC, again you'll be instructed to
connect to your device so that the update can be installed there.

Once the update is installed on the PPC, you'll need to install the
version of Money for PPC that matches your PC version (in your case
Money for PPC 2005). You can download the 2005 version from the
following link:

http://money.mvps.org/downloads/add-ons/mnyppc05.exe

First you'll install Money for PPC 2005 on your PC. Then you'll
connect to your device to begin the install to PPC. Don't skip this
step. Even though Money for PPC 2005 is not compatible with Pocket PC
2000 (Windows CE 3), you must start the install and let it fail. You
will be prompted to acknowledge the error message on the device.
Acknowledge but ignore all installation failure warnings.

In my experience, apparently Money on the PC only cares that you have
the corresponding matching version for PPC installed and that you
attempted to install it to the device. I am currently syncing Money
2006 on my PC with a Jornada 525 using the above installation.

I can't forsee you having any problems doing the same. Once you've
attempted the Money for PPC 2005 install, you should be able to connect
your device, and with ActiveSync running, configure the Money sync
between your PC and PPC.

If you decide to give it a try, post back with any questions or
problems. Thanks.

Regards,
JB

Default Pocket PC Compatibility

I have Money 2005 on my PC (with windows XP), and Windoew CE 3.0 on my
PPC (an HP Jornada 540). Does anybody know of any way to make these
things talk?

Money for Pocket PC 2005 only works with PPC Windows 2002 or 2003.

The HP Jornada is aparently does not have an upgradable OS.

I believe that Money for Pocket PC 2004 would work on my PPC, but when
I installed it on my PC, it said that I didn't have Money, so I guess
it did not recognize my Money 2005.

Perhaps there's a workaround with one of the Microsoft programs, or a
third party software out there????

HELP!

Thanks.
