| Well, I respectfully disagree. I don't think the broker is at fault. Okay it would be nice if the broker was consistent, but Money should not be stuck in a loop repeating the same error over and over seemingly ignoring my reply to the prompt that the investment is the same. This is an obvious bug in Money. BTW, what if I have two different brokers each one displaying a slightly different name for the same investment? Sounds like a major problem unless the above bug is fixed. | An investment can't have two different names, so if the broker is using different names (and/or identifiers) in the OFX download, that's the problem. You'll need to contact them to have them be consistent with the names in the download. -Mark "Don" <don87109[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:eGyKl9PxFHA.1028[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > The Broker is OptionsXpress. | The Broker is OptionsXpress. The stock name in some transactions is sometimes abbreviated or long names sometimes truncated, the symbol is the same. For example in some transactions XYZ corporation is XYZ Corp. This does not seem to me to be unusual, Money should be able to cope. Although Money tries, but as I said it seems to get stuck in a loop. | Care to name the broker? If the broker is downloading the same investment using two different names (or more precisely two different symbols or CUSIPs) then THAT is what is confusing Money. The broker needs to correct this. -Mark "Don" <don87109[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23BQGXt3wFHA.3124[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > I tried working backwards and I encountered the original problem > immediately. | I tried working backwards and I encountered the original problem immediately. That is, my broker sometimes abbreviates a stock name and Money then gives me an error message saying "I already have a similar name with the same symbol defined, do I want to use that name", I reply yes and it accepts it but then the error message comes up again when I click next. It looks like it is stuck in a loop. With all the problems associated with investment downloads I have concluded that function does not work in Money. I give up. <johnbusc[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1127782108.877081.49510[at]f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com... - quote - > Don wrote: > > It then seems to download from that date to the current date. | Exporting, deleting and importing did not work well so I used my backup file. Then I tried to download a date range but that doesn't seem to work. Despite having a prompt that says "date range" it only allows one date. It then seems to download from that date to the current date. So my idea of downloading a month at a time doesn't seem possible. Am I doing something wrong? I am getting pretty discouraged. | I think I may know the problem. When I downloaded the transactions for the YTD the same stock was described two different ways. Sometimes it's called General Motors and other transactions call it General Mtrs. Apparently, Money accepts the first description and then balks at the second description. When it asks me if it is the same stock, I say yes and it appears to accept it. Then when I click Next the same error pops up again. I have repeatedly said to accept it to no avail. It's just in a loop. There is another option which says accept as a new stock and when I do that the same thing happens, it's just keeps looping back to the same error. I tried deleting it from my existing portfolio, but N.G. the same thing happens (looping). So, despite trying every alternative Money gives me its still stuck in a loop. This was the first download of this account which has transactions from the beginning of the year. If I can figure out how to get rid of the current download, maybe I can download a month at a time and see if that works. But I don't see anyway of deleting my current download. <johnbusc[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1127496845.112361.80970[at]g47g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... - quote - > Don wrote: > > I am pretty sure old versions maybe M98 had this capability, how can > > it be that M2004 does not? The answer to your original question is NO. Also, there's basically no> it be that M2004 does not? Again, what is the purpose of review if you > cannot edit or delete? difference in the "review" process from 2004 through 2006. Editing and deleting is done after you accept the download. While I can appreciate your desire to skip the offending transaction and proceed to the next, what assurance do you have you won't face the same dilemma with those? - quote - > Money asks me if I want to use the portfolio name
Maybe say no and then edit your existing portfolio?> and when I say yes it goes back to the same error message. You said you thought you had the problem in 2002 before upgrading to 2004. Is it possible you're propagating an old issue? I think you need to move beyond your original question and find out what it is about your account and portfolio setup within Money that is causing the conflict. You didn't mention the name of the first broker, but I am not aware of any problems with Schwab downloads recently. Best of luck! Regards, JB |

| I don't know the file format, I configured Money to download directly from the broker. The bad transaction is stopping me from processing the whole batch of transactions. I get an error message saying that the investment already exists in my portfolio. Money asks me if I want to use the portfolio name and when I say yes it goes back to the same error message. Looks like it is caught in a loop. Anyway, I can probably think of a Rube Goldberg way to solve my problem, but what I really want is a way to delete the transaction while in the review mode. I am pretty sure old versions maybe M98 had this capability, how can it be that M2004 does not? Again, what is the purpose of review if you cannot edit or delete? Anybody know if later versions of Money allow delete or edit in the review screen? <johnbusc[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1127491850.538900.201460[at]g44g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... - quote - > Don, > When you say "bad", do you mean its preventing you from > reviewing/processing all transactions or is it just that you don't want > the "bad" one in your register? > If the former, what type of file format is the download? | Don, When you say "bad", do you mean its preventing you from reviewing/processing all transactions or is it just that you don't want the "bad" one in your register? If the former, what type of file format is the download? You may be able to edit it outside Money to remove the offending transaction. If the latter, deleting it in review won't help because your next download will just try to replace it. If you don't want the transaction to affect your balance, let it post to your register and then manually enter an offsetting transaction. | Using MS Money 2004. I downloaded my investment transactions on a new account and am having problems reviewing the transactions. Apparently one of the transactions is bad and I want to delete it and process the rest of the transactions. Unfortunately, I cannot find any way to delete a specific transaction while in the "review" screen. There must be a way to delete a transaction or maybe edit it otherwise what is the purpose of "review". I tried selecting the transaction and right clicking the mouse but nothing happens. I have MS Money 2004 installed on an XP and a W98 system and both have the same problem. I think I had the same problem with MS 2002 before I upgraded to 2004. I tried another Investment account that uses another broker (Schwab) and have the same problem. |
