You can do QIF export of each and import the files.> it to the current version? If you import as statements, money will look for duplicates. If you import as recovered accounts, Money will not. I suggest you work with copies of your file in case you don't like the result at some point. |

| Is there a way that I can "export" the 2004 archived file and then "import" it to the current version? The archived file has all the deposit information from 2004 and the current version has all the debit information. So if there was a way to add them back together, everything should be pretty close. I tried to go back to the 04/19/05 files but it says that they are corrupt. So I think that I am safe to go ahead and delete those files. My favorite way to open Windows Explorer is <WindowsKey> +E> skip that 5 month period in time. Sorry, but how do I copy it to a file > using Windows Explorer, which you have mentioned? Thanks Browse to and select the file you want to copy. Right-click and choose Copy. If you want to change to a different folder, do it. Then right-click into the right-hand pane where files are shown, and right-click choosing Paste. It may be called something like "Copy of mymoney.mny". Right click that file, and choose Rename. While you could just have used Rename directly on the archive, I like to let an extra copy exist in case I want to undo something. I have a lot of disk space and a belief that I could do something stupid at some point. |

| When Money would prompt me to back up, I would back up to the flashdrive every 10 days. When I look to see what is in the Flash drive only the most current file is there and I can not find all the back up copies. they just skip that 5 month period in time. Sorry, but how do I copy it to a file using Windows Explorer, which you have mentioned? Thanks -- wendy "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, jwmatorres wrote: > > I had been using Money 2001, then earlier this year I upgraded to 2005 (now I > > think that I should not have). Please Help review your backup policy. Your having the backup that dates to 4 or 5 months ago is no worse than some other strategies, but you can do better. I would burn a copy of your most recent backup to CDR at least monthly, using a different name each time. Keep a copy on USB flash drive maybe weekly, in case your hard drive crashes. The archive file is a copy of what your Money file was at the time of archive. To go back to that time. The archive file should have the name "archive" in it. I would copy it to a file with a name something like jwmatorres.mny, using Windows Explorer. Then open that file in Money (double-click in Windows Explorer is one way). Add back the week's worth of transactions. Perhaps you will want to print those out in a report from your current file first. |

| I had been using Money 2001, then earlier this year I upgraded to 2005 (now I think that I should not have). I usually back up about every 10 days. However on Saturday I decided to Archive my old data. Big Mistake. I lost all the deposits on all my accounts from 2004, but it left everything else from 2004 there! And of course even though I always back up, I can't find those files either. When I find all the back up files, it shows the last date as 04/19/05. Does anyone have any suggestions, before I go back to January 1, 2005 and start again? And also could you explain why a lot of times when I go to open Money, it tells me that it is already running? Then I have to restart my computer so it will let me open Money. Please Help |
