I installed the trial version of 2004 and it automatically translated (?) my
Money 99 data. I dont recall doing anything in particular to make it work.

Then, my issue was to get the money 2004 and data to move to my new computer
and "fit" in with money 2006. I tried unsuccessfully many times with
importing and also with drag/dropping with the mover software I was using. My
only solution finally came when I moved a backup version from the old
computer to the new one and then "restored " it in Money 2006. That finally
worked. I have no idea if this will help you or not. Good luck.

I don't remember if Money 2004 would run in safe mode, but I would

I installed the trial version of Money 2004 and also followed the
instructions to repair my Money 99 file. Both seemed to work successfully.
However, when I open Money 2004 and it tries to convert my 99 file, the
program just locks up. I have tried a number of times and even tried having
it convert/open a backup file. I uninstalled Money 2004 and reinstalled it,
but I'm having the same problem. Any suggestions? My whole life is on my
Money 99 file, and I am trying to step upgrade to 2006.

You try to convert, and Money 2006 says the file is corrupt, and to
try to repair, and it claims there is a database error...




To work around this issue, you should try a step conversion to
allow Money 2006 to read your data. Microsoft has made the US Money
2004 Deluxe Trial available for you to work through this process.



1. Uninstall Money 2006.



2. Change your system date to: 12/31/2004



3. Connect to
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...D/M12USWEB.exe


4. Choose Open to download the M12USWEB.exe file.



5. When prompted, "Do you want to install Microsoft Money" choose
Yes. This will start the installation of Money 2004 Trial.



Once the trial is completely installed:



1. Open Money 2004.



2. Open your Money 99 or earlier data file and choose Yes to
convert the file.



If you still receive an error when trying to convert the data file,
your file may be damaged. For further information on
troubleshooting damaged data files, read the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base article:

3. When you have successfully converted your data file to Money
2004, Install Money 2006.



4. After installing Money 2006, open the file you just used in
Money 2004 and choose Yes to convert.

can also be in trouble unless they've installed other software that has
msjet35.dll, and it is on the path. It is not sufficient to have the file on
the computer, Money 2006 must be able to find it.

Search the hard drive, and see if there are any copies of msjet35.dll. If
so, see if it is on the path. If that folder is not listed on the path, copy
it to a folder that is, do your conversion, then delete the file so that you
are not open to the security flaws. You can always re-install Money 98 or 99
and get a copy of msjet35.dll from there.

To find what is on the path, open a Command Prompt and type "ECHO %PATH%"
(without the quotes). This will list all the folders on the path, separated
by semi-colons.

My idea is this: see if you can find an intermediate version, say M02, and
see if it can upgrade your file. Then try to upgrade it to M06.

Most users are able to upgrade data files for whatever past version they are
using. Some people fail.

I tried microsoft's lame workaround ( Export 15 years of financial data (30+
accounts) one at a time from 99 and import them into 2006. Of course you
can't export loan's, so the accounts with loan payments do'nt improt
correctly...
