| In addition to those cited by Cal, online transaction matching seems to me to be a little more accurate and complete, particularly with investment transactions. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL Dan Konigsbach wrote: - quote - > Could you amplify on the statement that Money 2006 has significant, but > non-obvious, improvements over Money 2005? The improvements I see are obviously subtle (except #1), since there seem to be few comments on the changes I like best. So note that this is not a comprehensive list. These are the most notable improvements that occurred to me: 1. There are two backup choices: each exit and selectable period. Each can keep 1...99 auto date-stamped backups. The instructions for how to make the periodic one to be CD, or explaining the options, needs to be provided, however. This should be done in the help item that is linked to in the backup setup. The backup behavior out of the box is very good. It should cause people to not continually overwrite their only backup file as they exit. There are settings that fit my usage better from the initial settings, and I plan to post my opinions/suggestions on that topic. But the multiple version backups are a big plus, even by default. 2. One frequent complaint was the Money 2005 Portfolio was going for quotes automatically each time you viewed it. If you don't have it selected to check quotes every 30 minutes, M06 does not fetch the quotes until you ask for them. That is a most requested feature from my observation, believe it or not. That is not to say that the portfolio is of much interest to a majority of users. Money 2005's portfolio introduced some useful extra columns that could be configured in. But those that used the Money 2005 portfolio found the automatic refreshing of quotes to take time when it was not wanted-- even if they were on broadband. 3. In CategorySettings there is a is checkbox for UseTheDualCategoryDropdownControl and it was already SET upon conversion from my Money 2005 file. 4.The one that is not often cited, but was my "favorite" 2005 bug, was the when you Group by Position, many of the mkt value column would be way high. It turned out to be a reproducible bug in 2005 where if you made an estimated value figure when you created and investment account, that number would be added to the mkt val of *some* investments. 5. With M06, the Market Value at the bottom of the portfolio view did not change when I toggle ChangePortfolioView-> ShowWatchAccounts. I had thought it odd that the watch account values would get carried to the Market Value and to Today's Total Change for the portfolio in earlier versions. On the down side, the watch accounts themselves do not show the 6. In the portfolio, reordering a column while looking at an account does not scroll the view back to the top. Vertical scrolling position is maintained. Thus, while grouping by account, focus into the account is maintained. 7. ShowStandardizedPayeeNamesForWhichANameIsNotFound works for downloading for me now. That allows payee names that differ by only a number and punctuation to be matched to the existing payee. I am sure that other things appeal to other people. I am confident that others care about different things. Money 2005 users who want to see things that look and work very differently will be disappointed. However they had their "wish" upon the change from 2004 to 2005. |

| Could you amplify on the statement that Money 2006 has significant, but non-obvious, improvements over Money 2005? I'd be willing to upgrade if I had a good reason, but looking over the new feature list that Microsoft posts, none seem significant, compelling or, frankly, interesting to me. However, that list is so brief and vague that it's hard to really evaluate. What kind of significant improvements could I look forward to if I upgrade from 2005 to 2006? |

| When I try to buy via Amazon, I am forced to buy the Canadian version. Is it likely this is compatible with my current 2000 version, which I don't recall as being a Cdn version? Do I need to provide you with the 'About Money' version number to validate compatibility? P.S. Tried to buy via US microsoft site (compusa) but it complains of my Cdn address. www.microsoft.ca has no way to buy, just info. Man, I can't believe how difficult it is to buy. puzzling why they would make it so difficult to get a sale. | I want to upgrade my MS Money to version 2005 or 2006. I currently am running with version 2000. Will I be able to install 2005/6 and boot up with my v2000 mny file, or is that version too old to be upwardly compatible with 2005? P.S. I ran into this upgrade version incompatibility b4 with another product and don't want to lose all of my historical MS Money data. Thnx |
