Default RE: Stock Symbol already in use

It sounds to me like you are confused about accounts and investments. An
account is a place where you acuire your individual investments. For
example, I have an investing acount with XXX Brokerage Firm. In that account
I have shares in the company ABC Inc. whose stock simple is, oddly enough
ABC. I also have an account at ZZZ Brokerage Firm. When I choose to buy
some shares in ABC Inc. in that account, the name of the investment will come
come up in the dropdown list. If you only have one investment in an account,
the name of that investment should not be confused with the name of the
account.

Does that box have a label? The box I was describing was asking for
the name of the stock that the option was based on.

Perhaps if you describe each the steps you follow after opening
Money, including what you click in what order, somebody will be able
to spot the problem and figure the solution.

No, there is just a box where you can type the symbol, and when you do, if
it's a duplicate, it will not allow you to use it. You can add a number or
letter to it but then it's uselss.

My mistake. That should have been
AccountList-> SetUpAccounts-> AddANewAccount

When I go to the Account List I do not have "Add New Account" listed anywhere
on the Screen. There are some common tasks on the left pane and 1 of the
selections is "Set up Accounts" but that's as close as it gets to Add New
Account. I've tried that and I get the same error message.
The only place on the tool bar where I have that selection [add new account]
is File> New> New Account and I have tried it that way.
Thanks for trying though!

If you go to AccountList-> AddANewAccount
and you select that you want to set up an Employee Stock Option
Account, press next, I expect you to get a window titled "New
Employee Stock Option" in the title bar. Clicking Next again should
give a box labeled "Stock Name:" followed by a blank box and a
rectangle with a little down-arrow. Click that down-arrow, or do you
not have one?

You got a message that a symbol is already in use? Create a
security only once. Thereafter choose it from the drop-down list.

Default Stock Symbol already in use

I'm trying to open an Employee Stock Options Account in Money 2003 Deluxe. I
already have an account open in Money that is Hershey Stocks and the Symbol
is HSY. The Employee Stock Option Account I'm trying to open also has the HSY
Stock Symbol because it it Hershey Stocks (makes sense) I can't get past the
point of entering the Stock Symbol in the Stock Options account becuase I get
a message that tells me that symbol is already in use. Why and how do I get
around this?
