Automatic Backup

Copy your .mny file and recent .mbf files to other media such as a
USB flash drive.

Do a File-> RepairMoneyFile-> QuickFileRepair

When you want to change the location, Browse to the location rather
than typing it in. However I have no clue as to what might cause
Money to not let you change your backup file "Keep only the __ most
recent backup files" number.

I would create a File--> New-> NewFile without a passport (decline),
and see if you can make the changes running that file. If you can't,
I would consider reinstalling Money. If you can, I would do a
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2 on your real Money
file.

If you still have the problem, I would contact Microsoft support
directly.

Below are my suggestion for Money 2006 backup settings:

In M06: Tools-> Settings-> BackupOptions
I suggest checking
x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
Save in [a place on your hard drive ]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _20_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

x Perform scheduled backups every _7_ days
Save in [a USB flash drive location]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest
backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a
copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that
came with your CDR drive.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash rather than floppies. They
are bigger, so you don't have to swap media to back up. Plus
they are much more reliable (but not failure-proof).

When I close Money 6 Deluxe, I cannot get it to place the backup files (My
