| Misery loves company. I came to this forum because of this topic. I had the problem licked for a while, but it came back. I solved it the first time by editing the payees and going to the Payees Rule Manager. There you can add payee name variations. When I did this, Money began matching downloaded transactions (that invariably had different payee names) with recurring budget items. I'm pretty sure that this stopped working when I upgraded to Money 2005 (from Money 2001). Did anyone ever get this to work in Money 2005? Thanks! | Amen I have the same problem, you described so well. Opened up the trial for 2006 and to my chagrin it's still there. Among others...so too have thought seriously about Quicken over the last several years but just don't want to deal with what I'm sure would be headache switching. wh wrote: - quote - > Susan - I'm not sure if not matching downloaded vs manually entered > transactions are 2 bugs or 1, but in general, your description is spot-on. > Microsoft: What's up with this?! | Susan - I'm not sure if not matching downloaded vs manually entered transactions are 2 bugs or 1, but in general, your description is spot-on. Microsoft: What's up with this?! Am I the only one that downloads transactions _and_ uses recurring bills? I doubt it. It's hard to believe that every user isn't fed up with this problem. Maybe it's time to check out Quicken. |

| This is the problem I keep talking about. Downloaded transactions don't match to Scheduled transactions. This is NOT the same problem as mismatching with manually entered transactions. OK. You have entered a bunch of scheduled transactions, aka upcoming bills. At some point you pay your bills. Later, you download your transactions from your FI. Some of them don't have a category, or have the wrong category. Occasionally, the same thing happens with payees. So, when there is missing or incorrect information, you add it or change it. SOMETIMES, a box will pop up that says "Is this your scheduled payment to XXXX?" with details on the downloaded transaction that you can compare with the details on the scheduled transaction. The problem is that most of the time, the box DOESN'T pop up, even after you have the right payee & category. In those cases, there doesn't seem to be a way to tell Money that this is a scheduled transaction payment. Money thinks it's overdue, & nags you about it until you go Skip Payment. There is no discernable difference between the ones that pop up the box, & the ones that don't. There is another thing it does that I believe to be related to whatever causes the first thing. Sometimes all your downloaded transactions will be either correctly matched or unmatched, EXCEPT for a couple that match to wildly inappropriate FUTURE scheduled transactions. Wildly inappropriate means different payee, different dates (one is past, one is future), different amounts, etc. Lots of people have been asking about these two issues, but they lump them together as "transaction matching ." I don't think they're the same thing, & I don't think we're going to get anywhere with "how to match scheduled transactions to downloaded transactions" until we examine it separately.from "how to match manually entered transactions to downloaded transactions." I want to know what makes the "Is this your scheduled payment to XXX?" box pop up, or not. I hope that made sense. | Sorry if I didn't mention this before, but I'm using recurring bills (marking key bills as recurring in my checking account register). This schedules them for cash flow analysis, and when the date passes, ends up marking them overdue if it can't find an exact match in the register. It fails to find an exact match because (a) I have them set up to pay with BillPay, and (b) I update my bank about online, and often the transaction ID or date is inserted as the name of the payee. At least I'm guessing that's why it can't figure out how the recurring bill matches with the payment. I maybe wrong, but I think your using it wrong. In money you go to billsMoney > 2003: > The Bills & Deposits list is constantly showing me items that are past due, > and I believe this is because the downloaded transactions are often > showing up with different names. It adds the bill as a transaction to your bank account in money. You then still have to do the work necessary to pay the bill, sending a check, going to the website to pay it, online bill pay etc. When you do auto update or download a export file and import it, the transaction will match up with the bill that you paid. You can then accept it or cancel it. |

| I'm using Money 2006, and have a question that has been unsolved since Money 2003: The Bills & Deposits list is constantly showing me items that are past due, and I believe this is because the downloaded transactions are often showing up with different names. How can I match up the past due items with the actual transactions that they belong to? "Make a one-time payment" isn't what I want, because the bill was already paid (via MSN BillPay). I just want to say "this bill here was paid by this payment there." Similarly, double clicking on the item in the bill summary offers to add an entry to my register. I don't want to add an entry, I just want to specify which register entry was the payment. Thanks, Warren |
