| If it opens the M06 file, it's M06. Money files are hopelessly wedded to the version that created them and old versions know absolutely nothing about newer version files. The password crap is their goofy way of telling you this. The .M11 file will not be renamed on uninstall of the version that backed up the Money 2003 file. | This has happened before and after I uninstalled M06. The file I tried to open is just click on the desktop and Program File list Money 03. It opened and asked for my password as usual, but then got error message saying the password I entered was not correct. If i click on the 06 file, it will ask for password and after entering the same password, it will open. These files you speak of (.M11), that are renamed to .MNY, am I supposed to rename them or does money do that after the uninstall? In other words is this automatic or manual? I'll have to install the 06 version again to see more of what you speak as its off the system for now. Nothing unexpected going on. If you had a Money 2003 file named> I recently downloaded the 2006 trial version. The trial version installed > and converted the 2003 files just fine. Michael.mny, Money 2006 would have converted that to 2006 format. At the same time it would have left a file, in that same folder, called Michael.m11 . I suggest that you copy Michael.m11 (for example) to Michael03.mny. Then I would open Money 2003, and File-> Open Michael03.mny. Thereafter Money 2003 will remember that its most recently used file was Michael03.mny, and will open to that file by default in the future. |

| Have you uninstalled M06? Which file is it you are trying to open with M03? The post-M06 file? The file you saved before doing anything with M06? The upgrade backup file created by M06 and renamed [oldname].M11 renamed to .MNY? Does the M03 version open its own sample file? | I've been using Money 2003 for some time now. I have it password protected. I recently downloaded the 2006 trial version. The trial version installed and converted the 2003 files just fine. It opens with the same password as the 2003 file. Now here comes the problem, I saved the 2003 version on the computer just in case. But I've had to twice now use System Restore to be able to open the 2003 version because it says my password is incorrect after installing the 2006 version. Is there a work around for this? Thanks, Mike |
