In any case, you have to be an administrator to install Money. Later versions work well with user accounts, but they also need administrator privilege to install. |

I bet your problem relates to user permissions. I would strongly recommend that you delete all the new user accounts and return to one administrator account at least until you have everything working correctly. User accounts are quite complex and can drive you nuts unless you really know what you are doing. I had Money 2002 setup in 2 limited user accounts (the admin account was still active as well) and it worked fine but it was a bear to get setup correctly. I had to fiddle with it for several days to get everything working. Money had to be installed from an Admin account. In my opinion the problems with user accounts are not worth the gains unless you happen to be a windows networking expert which I am not. So I recently deleted all of our user accounts except one and now run the computer from one Admin account and use the internet from a limited user account. When I need to install software or make other changes I use the Admin account to change the user account to an Admin acct temporarily then I change the user acct back to a limited acct after I am done. I have had no further problems since I got rid of separate user accts for each person. The only justification for user accounts for home use is that it is safer to use the internet from a limited account than an admin account and that is why I did save one user account. Otherwise I would run the computer from a single Admin account. People who really understand these issues and have the time to do the setup work are able to use separate user accounts with no problems but I just don't have the time to learn all the details. Only if that gives a problem, would you mess with the registry. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;895866 might have some useful info, but I would try the easy things first. |

| I just spoke with a friend who also uses money and know a little about computers and he thinks it may be a registry problem, since the money file was copied from another users "my documents" folder that no longer exists and since money was originally installed as that user. He thinks I should make backups of all my money files and money backup files on CD then completely uninstall and reinstall the software to include removing any old registry entries that may not automatically get removed in the process. Any guidance on that? I thought I was making progress when I found this article on hangups when starting money (http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;316863) but the user information in the registy already matched mine. Copy your Money file and backups to different media, such as a USB flash drive. This is to save you if your hard drive fails. You might also then consider running the disk checking utility from your operating system. I would then reinstall Money from the CD. You might also want to consider Money 2006. There is a downloadable Money 2006 deluxe trial, if you are in the US. During install, Money 2006 would ask if it should uninstall your earlier version. Say no if you do not want Money 2003 to be installed at that point. When Money 2006 opens your existing file, it will convert its format. While it makes a backup, you could also have it convert a copy of your existing file. That would make it easier to have potentially have both versions on your hard drive at the same time. |

| Cal, I made it a little farther when trying to access the program using the sample.mny, but the program still hung. When I clicked on sample.mny a sample "My Money Homepage" comes up along with a popup asking me to upgrade to deluxe. After closing the pop-up I'm left at the sample money homepage, but everything is frozen. I noticed that several of the charts/graphs which would normally be displayed at statup are stuck on "loading". I let PC sit for 15 minutes in an attempt for them to load, but it seems to be stuck at that point. I can't scroll up or down, access the top line tool bar, etc. When I go to the task manager it indicates the status as running now instead of not responding like before. What next? I tried to reinstall > and still have the same problem. Any ideas? Explorer, that is located in your install directory/folder. That is to help determine whether the problem is with your installation, or your file. If that works, make an extra copy of your newest .mbf (Money Backup File) file, and open Money by double-clicking that .mbf file. Rather than restore to the default location, browse to a new name and location. If that has a problem, try restoring an earlier backup file. If you have only one backup file, you will want to review your backup strategy. If there is still a problem, let us know how you progressed. |

| I've been using Money 03 for a long time now with no problems on my XP machine. I never used to have user accounts set up, but recently set one up for myself, wife and all the kids. Since then money doesn't work. It hangs at the splash screen. The old "administrator" account that everyone used to use is gone now since each person has their own login. I tried to reinstall and still have the same problem. Any ideas? |
