The log only reported "Fixed records in online table." but it didn't delete the file. The new file is about 2MB smaller so perhaps it did something right. I'll be testing it now to see what happens. | Tom, It is normal for mnybbsvc task to be running. I don't think this is what's trashing your file. By the way, I too read the help about not wanting mnybbsvc to run continuously. I set all my updates to NEVER and cleared the checkmark on Update Quotes every XX minutes. I still have mnybbsvc running in the background. Doesn't cause the problems you have though. Are you still getting the Dr Watson error on shutdown? I think you need to find out why this is occurring. In addition, a reinstall of Money and possibly a file repair might be in order. Good Luck. When you enable automatic online updates, you may see a task labeledmnybbsvc in the Windows Task Manager. The mnybbsvc task will automatically update your accounts according to the schedule you've set, even while Money is closed. If you do not want mnybbsvc to run continuously, follow the instructions above, and for each bank or brokerage, set the update frequency to Never. Note You can also use the Online updates button in the upper-right corner of the Money window to update your accounts. Point to the button, click the arrow, and then click Update Now. |

That must be keeping the file open and it is trashing it. How do you disable it or get it to close without impinging upon the open file. Which I might add should not be kept open unless an active update is occurring. Thanks, Tom |

| Tom, Were you getting Dr Watson errors before installation of Money 2006? If not, this may be the source of your problem. Use Task Manager before shutting down to see if msmoney.exe is still running. If it is you may want to determine if it eventually terminates normally and how long it takes. This may give you an idea of when to shutdown after using Money. Regards, JB |

Something might be weird about my shutdown as DRWatson reports a problem that is related to something still running while Shutdown is happening. It never mentions what is running. Thanks, Tom |

| TB, You mention that the "application shut down normally". How large is your file? How long was the app open before you shut it down? There are plenty of users reporting situations where msmoney.exe is still running even when the user interface (UI) has closed. These reports started with Money 2005. My experience is that the larger the file the longer money needs to completely start up in the background even if the UI is active. If this startup process is not completed when you close the UI, money continues to run in the background. For M05, it took about a minute for this process to complete on my 30MB file. With a recent update to M06, its now taking six minutes for a 30MB file, two minutes for a 15MB file, and less than a minute for a 6MB file. When you shut your system down do you know if money was still running in the background? Do you recall whether you had to terminate any running processes for the shutdown to complete? I'm curious to see if this could be the source of your problem as I have yet to see a plausible explanation for the "still running" issue. If corrupted files is another symptom of it, I'd rather know sooner than later. Please post back and let us know. Thanks. Regards, JB T. | Twice in the last two weeks Money has completely delted my primary file. The application shut down normally and made its backup. The next day after a system shutdown, reboot, Money complained that it couldn't find the data file. It wasn't there but there was a ~of92.tmp file that looked like the right file size. I restored from a backup version and recovered without any lost data. Has anyone else seen this? What should I check on to trouble shoot it? Tom |
