| Matt's solution works, I stumbled on it myself after Money wouldn't let me switch back from Ess. to Adv Budgeting. I think my budge got corrupted after Money helpfully noticed that a split transaction with two different subcategories wasn't being tracked in my budget, and offered to track them. I said yes and my probs began. In the future, I'll decline that "helpful" offer. Tom |

| Still nothing works!! Very frustrating - I've tried every type, I've repaid the file, I've removed Money and reinstalled, and still nothing works. Sometimes I really hate MS Money!!!!! | Here's a way I found to reset the budget when there are "phantom" expenses lurking around. Nothing else seemed to work Go to the budget tab. Click on Edit expenses in the sidebar Remove ALL categories (should say Total: $0) then click done Now if you still have phantom expenses in your budget, and can't go to the Advanced Budget, do the following Click on the Budget vs. Spending subtab Make note of any phantom categories you see remaining in your budget (these are what you need to get rid of) Somehow, get to the Categories & Payees window (banking-> account tools-> ....) For every category (subcategory) that you noted was a phantom in the budget: - double click the (sub)category - move all transactions to some temporary category (use only top-level categories, no subcategories) - when finished, click done - from the Categories & Payess window, delete the phantom (sub)category - when it asks for a new category to put the deleted stuff in, choose the temporary category you just moved the transactions to After doing this for all phantom categories, go back to the budget tab. Click on Edit expenses in the sidebar You should now see the temporary categories - the phantoms have materialized! Remove all the categories and click done This should have fully reset your budget. Move your transactions from the temporary categories back to where they belong and rebuild your budget again from the ground up. This worked for me. Hope it helps for you too. | I'll tell you, I have spent hours and hours trying to get this damn thing working. Finally, I did. What I did was create a new Money file. Then, BEFORE importing your QIF switch to the Advanced Budget. The problem is that if you import first then you can't switch. But switching first seemed to work, at least for me. Now if I could only get the budget figures to make sense... "rikmar67" wrote: - quote - > I am having the same problem, can't switch to Advanced Budget. | I am having the same problem, can't switch to Advanced Budget. I removed all income and expense items from the budget as the KB suggested. I even repaired my database as suggested. Still no go. Whenever attempting to switch to Advanced Budget it just goes right back to Essential Budget. Is there a solution that really works? Try repairing your money file. I had this same problem a few days ago.want > to switch from essential to advance using the change settings link. When I > attempt to change, nothing happens. All other areas (bills/reports, etc) > that have the ability to switch between these modes will switch correctly. > What am I not doing? Different situation I was on machine B and was opening money file that was located on share on machine A. Machine B isn't all that stable and crashed while in money. I was playing around with the budget feature also switching back and forth. After a crash I started money and went back to the budget area and noticed I was in essential mode when I new before the crash I was in advanced mode. I tried to switch back to advance mode to play around with it again and it wouldn't switch. I restored from a previous backup and it fixed the problem. However in your case the backup may also be corrupted and repairing may be your only option. |

| I have already created a budget that is using essential budget mode. I want to switch from essential to advance using the change settings link. When I attempt to change, nothing happens. All other areas (bills/reports, etc) that have the ability to switch between these modes will switch correctly. What am I not doing? |
