Default Re: Automatically change transaction type?

Richard,

I implemented what you suggested, it was working fine but then my money file
became corrupted (unrelated problem) and I had to restore from a recent
backup. Since then this automatic change process has stopped working.

The new transactions downloaded from my bank are not getting changed.

Any suggestions?

Richard,
I was changing the 'transaction type' using the options that appear in the
window when I right click the entry in the register. I have not tried Editing
the entry and assigning the category to Special: Transfer. I will try that
next time around. Thanks!

Since you're using Money 2004, I can't remember if this is possible or not,
but in 06, you can change the transaction in the second account to match to
the transfer you created after the download.

Really? That's never happened to me before. Money remembers my
transactions and will give me whatever category that I'd previously
assigned when I download a new transaction... except for any
special categories. Money doesn't ever automatically assign those.
Not for me (using M04).

What I do to ensure that anything that's really a transfer gets
downloaded correctly is to make a scheduled transfer in Bills &
Deposits. Then whenever I make the actual transfer (e.g. paying a
credit card bill) at the time that I pay it, I go to B&D and enter
the scheduled transaction into the register.

This has the effect of giving Money something to match a downloaded
transaction to.

Another option is to download the transactions in each account and
manually change one of them to a transfer. But this would require
me to delete the downloaded transaction in which ever account I
didn't change. I prefer my method.

If you're changing the withdrawal to a transfer (by changing the category to
the special "transfer" category at the end of the list), Money should
remember this and default to it on future downloads. Is it not doing this?

Default Automatically change transaction type?

I pay my Paypal charges by direct payment from my checking accout. In MS
Money I maintain an acount called Checking and another called Paypal. When I
connect to my bank and Money processes the new transactions all the Paypal
transactions are treated like withdrawals. I want Money to recognize the
transaction 'Web authorized payment - Paypal' and automatically change the
transaction type from Withdrawal to Transfer and inidicate the Transfer to:
account as Paypal.

Can this be done?
