Money 2005 will still update but I recommend that you use 2002. I use 2002 and like it far better than any of the newer versions all of which I have tried. You can download 2006 and try it for 90 days. If you like, run 2006 and 2002 side-by-side for a month or so and I bet you will agree that 2002 is far better. MSFT has an upgrade policy that calls for disabling direct downloads for 2005/6 after 2-3 years so even if you buy 2005/6 you will loose automatic updates anyway in a couple of years. Since I refuse to become trapped in an endless cycle of "forced" upgrades by MSFT, I am sticking with 2002 for now and hoping to switch permanently to Moneydance when that program matures. I realize that with 2002 we must use manual downloads instead of automatic updates but I am more than willing to click a few extra mouse clicks to manually download my data rather than pay MSFT for new versions (with arbitrary changes and no new substantive improvements) that try to manipulate me into a cycle of unnecessary upgrades. Also take a look at the excellent FAQ about Money 2005: http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm Regards Bill Wood |

| After not using Money for years I decided to install and old copy of 2002 just today. Now I'm having the same problem people here are describing. I can easily download the statements from the websites, but I'd like it to automagically update. Does anyone know if 2005 will still update? I don't think I want to use the 2005 version - the 2002 version I own is "Deluxe and Business" and was a gift when I worked for myself years ago. At least the stock quotes still update?? guanaya[at]bryan.edu wrote: - quote - > I appreciate advice from anyone on this matter > "William R Wood" wrote: > > > "Henry" <Henry[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:1FA7C856-6BFE-4CF9-A266-C79FA2468ECF[at]microsoft.com... > > > William, > > > > > Thanks for the clarification. At my banks they have an option to download to Quicken or Money on thier webpage. Simply click Money to download your statement data. If your credit card account is activated for online services in Money, the downloaded data file will be recognized by Money and automatically be imported. Just follow the instructions in the dialog box on screen. If your account is not activated for online services you can still manually import the downloaded info into money using the File/Import sequence in Money. Just follow the instructions in the dialog boxes that appear in Money. I discovered another very odd thing yesterday. As noted in my prior post all of a sudden my direct downloads from Citibank no longer worked starting about 10 days ago. Last night while fiddling with Money I re-activated my Citibank account and direct downloads now work again. If you have the same problem try to reactivate. Go to Accounts&Bills/Online Services Manager. Then click on Modify Services for Discover Card and follow the steps that appear. After reactivating your direct downloads may work again. Wierd but true for me. Good luck Bill Wood - quote - > Any advice would be appreciated > Sincerely, > Guellermo |

| Hell Mr. Wood, Thanks for your advice in the Henry's situation. I have the same issue running Money 2002. I was wondering how you "manually download the statements"? I try to download a statement from "Discover Card", but it prompts me to go through MS Money. | William, Thanks for the clarification. Well, after serious debate, I ran out and bought Money 2006 and the issue related to this subject line is resolved. However, 2006 has its own set of issues. Ahh, another victim of corporate imperialism! You are stuck. MSFT has disabled direct download for Money 2002 and it> when trying to setup a new account for online services, msg appears: > "Money > cannot complete a required online call at this time. Help! happened just recently. I recently built a new computer and setup my online account downloads only about 4 weeks ago - everything worked perfectly. Then a few days ago I tried to add a new credit card account at the same bank and direct downloads will not work. I get the same error message as you reported. This problem has nothing to do with XP, SP2 or IE. Lovely MSFT has simply stuck it to us. I have been a Microsoft fan for many years but this is going too far. I will never buy another MSFT product unless I have absolutely no choice. By the way I tried to "upgrade to Money 2003, 2004 and 2005. All of those new versions are useless to me due to bugs and missing features that I use in Money 2002 every day. Plus the newer versions are full of useless bloat and the interface is changed for no good reason. The interface changes defeat my years of practice on earlier versions which I can use very efficiently. For now I am manually downloading my bank and credit card transactions but I am hoping to switch to Moneydance as soon as it has matured. Regards Bill Wood |

| I do not believe there is a compat issue w/ SP2. I think it would be a mistake to trade in the added fixes and security of SP2. It's more likely that the online services for Money02 are not getting updated. Older versions of Money are being obsoleted. You may need to upgrade to a more recent version, to set up additional banking accounts. | I have the exact same setup as you, and started having the same problem last week. I'll have to go back and see if it started when SP2 was installed. Curiously, I downloaded the eval version of Money 2006, and I'm not having any problems with it connecting to my banks. | Henry, In my experience, get rid of SP2. I learned that when I installed SP2 I had printer problems and I can't remember the others; it was awhile ago. I uninstalled and now the only problem I have is that I can't get windows media to work. My office also said that SP2 has some issues. Obviously this is just my experience, but I would try uninstalling SP2, of course first making a backup of everything. I hope this helps or someone has a better resolution. -Barb "Henry" wrote: - quote - > Using Money 2002 on IE version 6 and XP SP2. > when trying to setup a new account for online services, msg appears: "Money > cannot complete a required online call at this time. | Using Money 2002 on IE version 6 and XP SP2. when trying to setup a new account for online services, msg appears: "Money cannot complete a required online call at this time. Please check your internet connections and try again". I've found a note that addresses this (321353) and the fixes are: 1) repair Internet explorer (which I cannot do because IE does not appear as an installed program 2) upgrade to latest IE (which I have) I even tried to re-download SP2 (to re-install) but the update center won't allow because I already have it installed. Help! |
