Then, in the budget setup, i put in the amount I want to budget each month. When i enter transactions for my reoccuring deposit, I fill in the categories and tell Money to NOT save the changes. If you save the changes then it will add the reoccuring deposit to your budget (I cannot find a way to have a reoccuring transaction NOT show up on the budget) --Brian |

Transfer To is actually a good way to do this. I wish Money would handle this transfer case better, e.g. if you balance your cc account before receiving your bank statement (and creating marking the transactions as transfers) it will later complain about changing a reconciled transaction. - quote - > > 2. There is more than one good way to download your credit card data and have also the payment downloaded from a checking account. Here are three ways I like, with : 1. When you process the first transaction of the credit card payment, set the category as a transfer to the other ( credit card or bank account), or use the equivalent "SPECIAL Credit Card Payment" category. When you process the second transaction,Money should match it. Be careful to not just Accept if Money did not find the match on its own for some reason. Click Change and match it to the transfer you already made if Money did not match it for you. I would consider this the classic of the ways I like. Note that for this you would *not* use the Money 2005 "EXPENSE Credit Card Payment". Instead you should consider deleting that "EXPENSE Credit Card Payment" to avoid confusion. 2. In method 2, don't handle credit card payments as transfers or the pre-defined "Credit Card Payment Instead create one category of "CC payment" or some such. If you define the category as an expense category, expect a warning when you use it to represent the payment within the credit card account -- if you have the warning enabled. Just click Yes in response to the warning. The category should net at zero in reports across accounts, and you can still customize to ignore the category if you like. [this is Bonnie Synhorst's favorite method.]. For this method you *could* use the Money 2005 "EXPENSE Credit Card Payment". 3. Create a suspense account. I have one I call In Transit, and I called it a "cash or other" account. Change each of the downloaded transactions into transfer to/from that account. That account will normally have a zero balance except while funds are in transit. Make your credit card payments as transfers to and from that account. - quote - > 2. What is the difference between a checking account entry that's of type

| I have several questions related to managing my accounts in Money 2004: 1. Downloaded Statements and Transfers - I download my statements from my credit card company and bank, but wish to mark my credit card payment from the bank statement as a transfer to the cc account. I want to do this so that the payment amount isn't considered an expense in one acct, and income in the other. However, when I do this, I end up with either a duplicate payment in one of the accounts (the opposite one from where I initiate the transfer). Is there a better way to do this, or some way to make Money more aware of how my accounts are managed so that this transfer happens automatically? (Note that my bank is BofA and they don't seem to offer direct download of statements. Maybe this is part of the problem.) 2. What is the difference between a checking account entry that's of type Withdraw with Category: Transfer to <cc acct> , one of type Withdraw with Category: Credit Card Payment: <cc acct> , and one of type Transfer with To: <cc acct> ? 3. Why does the cash flow graph always go down, down, down for credit card accounts? I pay them off each month, bu M2004 doesn't seem to factor the payments into them as balancing them out. Perhaps this is related to my use of transfers between accounts. What's the right way to do this? 4. My FirstUSA and BankOne Visa cards have both become part of Chase over time. I would like to change the Financial Institution associated with them, so that all these accounts are downloaded from the same place. If I use the Online Services Manager to modify my access to Chase, I can see all my accounts listed, but in the field labeled "This downloaded account matches:" M2004 only shows me a subset of my accounts listed there. The accounts not listed are associated with the old online service name. Same thing in reverse for the other service providers. Is there any way to break or change the online service provider associated with an account? 5. The Bills & Deposits list is constantly showing me items that are past due, and I believe this is because the downloaded transactions are constantly showing up with different names. How can I match up the past due items with the actual transactions that they belong to? 6. Annoyances with the Budget - My paychecks don't always fall on the same days each month, and when viewing the budget for the Last Month, sometimes they won't be attributed to the proper month. Consequently I'll get a month grossly under budget followed by a month over budget. How can I make M2004 more tolerant of these discrepancies? I would really rather see my budget with respect to moving averages rather than discrete values. Perhaps some of these are addressed in M2006. Please let me know if that is the case. Thanks very much for any answers you can provide! Warren |
