There are floppy data recovery services, but they can be expensive. I have not tried it. There are programs that try to recover the data, but I would not use one that tried to make changes to the same floppy. Keep that diskette write-protected until you give up. For future reference, USB flash drives tend to be more reliable than floppies. |

| I am afraid that i did have to format the hard drive. the back up is on only 1 diskette. (only home accounts) I have backups(archives) for 02/03/04/ on seperate floppys for the last 3 years and these are ok. I always backed up the data on a daily basis. I could put all the data back in but as you know this is very time consuming, but also i have lots of other details like contact numbers, pin numbers and passwords, unfortunatly this is the only record that i had of these. the file says Home Accounts Backup d1. I have tried putting the data onto the hard drive but it wont let me access it, beginning to think that it could be the floppy drive that s gone, any thoughts or ideas will be much appreciated thanks in advance Jim Ward |

| Bummer. No, the file can't be opened in Excel, but perhaps it can be opened in Money. What version of Money was the file last used in? Write-protect that floppy with the slider now. And search for more> back up to floppy disc. However when i try to restore the back up it says > that the file is corrupt. If there is just one, follow the procedure below, but expect there only to be a file named *d1.mbf. ================================================== ============= I would copy each file from the backup floppies to the same directory/folder. This will give you an extra backup and will separate any problems of reading the floppy media from some other potential problem. This is not the common way, and it is not usually necessary. But especially if it is my only backup, I would consider the copy to hard disk step. The files will be named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf, *d3.mbf and so on. In WE, double-click the *d1.mbf file. That should launch Money and start the restore. When Money prompts for the next diskette, click OK. If you are restoring directly from floppy diskette, you can insert the first floppy and double click the *d1.mbf file. Change diskettes when prompted. You will have a chance to change the location or filename for where the restored data will go. If this is a different computer, it is especially good to browse to a location. The old location may not even exist. - quote - > Can i open
No.> it up in any other program such as excell It may be possible to restore a file from the old hard drive. It may be too late. In retrospect, it would have been much better to get a new hard drive instead of formatting the drive that held your Money files. You did not say you formatted the old drive, but you did not say you did not. |
