I had been a Quicken user from the mid-90s until 2004 but I never remembered
Quicken offering a document link. Because of this feature, I am considering
moving back to quicken as well. The other thing that plays on my mind is the
continuing difficulties Microsoft seems to have in issuing bug free products.

I was reminded of the following. While not a complete answer to the
electronic documents question, perhaps it will meet someone's needs:

If people want to attach a warranty picture, they can scan a picture and
place it in a common folder. Then go to the Home Inventory, enter that item
and attach the screenshot to that. Essentially, we only point the user to a
folder where they can store images. They should place all the images they
want into the same folder, then they can attach the one they want to the
specific item. Not very fancy, but we do support this kind of functionality.
Just not for specific transactions. This was designed to allow you to keep a
record of what the item looked like for proof that you owned it for
insurance replacement purposes. Of course, if the computer burned up, there
goes the images....

To get to the Home Inventory, they can add the Home Inventory module to the
Home Page (2006).

Quicken had this feature a few years back (can't recall the specific version
or year at the moment), working in concert with ScanSoft's PaperPort
scanning and document management software. All the attached documents were
stored in a separate directory apart from the Quicken data directory.

I absolutely *loved* this feature! No more digging through my paper files
to locate a paycheck stub, receipt, car registration, emailed receipt, tax
return, ad infinitum... I was *extremely* disappointed when Quicken chose
to drop this feature in a later version; however, it appears Intuit received
enough feedback from customers who liked the feature to justify including it
in Quicken 2006. Incidentally, I believe TechSmith is working out an
arrangement with Intuit so their screen capture program, SnagIt, will work
seamlessly with Quicken. We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose.

The fact that Intuit has decided to resurrect this feature in Quicken 2006
is making me consider switching back to Quicken from Money. I'm sorry to
hear that Money 2006 won't have this capability.

While I have not seen Quicken 2006 with this capability, my guess is that Q
is not storing the entire scanned or electronic copy in the Q file but rather
a pointer to its location on the hard disk or network drive.

At 60MB, my Money data file is clearly already a *long way* from the days
when 8KB was a lot of memory. (I remember swapping TRS-80 4k kits for 16k
kits. I upgraded my 64k IBM 5150 to 640k. Boy that was all the memory in the
world.) But I surely don't think that many of us are prepared to tolerate
the complications that would come with our Money files increasing another 3
orders of magnitude in size anytime soon. YMMV.

With computer speed and size capability growing astromically,
alongside customer's desires, what problem does this question
really address? Should customers be satisfied with what they
could have had back when 8k of memory was a lot of memory? Back
when a floppy disk held a *lot* of data?

Don't you think the files are almost unmanageably big already?

At any rate, now that Q has it, M will probably get it.

I suggested to the Money product suggestions site last year that they
consider that, but it did not get adopted. I think that it would be a great
organization tool to have receipts and statement attached to income and
expense entries.

Money 2006 does not do that.

Default Quicken vs Money

Probably a stupid thread to start here. But I now have Money 2005. It is
slow but otherwise very usefull. I use to be a die hard quicken user but
switched a few years ago. Thought I would use budging a little more and
licked money budgeting features.

I am thinking of switch back to quicken. I notice that the new version,
released yesterday, has the ability to attach electronic documents to
transaction. Can money do this? What about Money 2006?
