I'd look over every bank account, credit card see if there is any sign of unauthorized acttivity. If you can, access the accounts on line to make sure you know about alll; the activity and the statements are going to your own address. I would point out passwords can be broken, or accessed by someone who is deteremined. I would also suggest that you be aware of how much Windows stores for the user. It may store things like you usernames and passwords, which makes the job for the theif even easier. I would also point out alot of stuff is on that hard drive, even if you deleted it. ---------- http://www.barnabascollins.blogspot.com ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Probably. I would search on the term "password recovery", and decide> So I should be good, right? if changing account passwords would be worthwhile. |

Write down the serial number plus any numbers you received from the purchase on paper and keep the paper in a safe place. Then copy your file or backup to your My Documents folder on the new computer. If the file came via a CDR, make sure it is not marked Read-only. Then File-> Open or File-> Restore as appropriate. If it is a backup file you have, during restore do not accept the "default" location. Instead Browse to the location-- typically your My Documents folder. - quote - > Any suggestions?
Nothing else you haven't told yourself already. |

You're not going to want to hear this but here goes: I had a similar situation. The bottom line is not only did I havr to get a new laptop I had to buy all new software because the software companies all assumed the software was in use on the laptop and declined to allow me to activate/register the software. So when it came to the software, I had the CDs but all they were good for was to put cups on. I couldn't use them. All insisted I had to buy new copies. BTW, if you have sensitive information on there like credit card numbers keep an eye on those accounts. ---------- http://www.barnabascollins.blogspot.com ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Also, have you checked your homeowner's insurance to see if there is> What do you suggest? any coverage from that? I am not saying that I think that kind of thing is covered. I am saying I don't know, but it might be worth checking. |
