| Here's a way I found to reset the budget when there are "phantom" expenses lurking around and preventing you from switching to advanced mode. Nothing else seemed to work Go to the budget tab. Click on Edit expenses in the sidebar Remove ALL categories (should say Total: $0) then click done Now if you still have phantom expenses in your budget, and can't go to the Advanced Budget, do the following Click on the Budget vs. Spending subtab Make note of any phantom categories you see remaining in your budget (these are what you need to get rid of) Somehow, get to the Categories & Payees window (banking-> account tools-> ....) For every category (subcategory) that you noted was a phantom in the budget: - double click the (sub)category - move all transactions to some temporary category (use only top-level categories, no subcategories) - when finished, click done - from the Categories & Payess window, delete the phantom (sub)category - when it asks for a new category to put the deleted stuff in, choose the temporary category you just moved the transactions to After doing this for all phantom categories, go back to the budget tab. Click on Edit expenses in the sidebar You should now see the temporary categories - the phantoms have materialized! Remove all the categories and click done This should have fully reset your budget. Move your transactions from the temporary categories back to where they belong and rebuild your budget again from the ground up. This worked for me. Hope it helps for you too. | Try moving them, or moving the category or sub category that contains them. Alternatively, use find and replace to revise the transactions affected first (to get them out of the categories), then move/delete, etc. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "Greg" <Greg[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CCBBD201-EEC5-41BB-A4EF-4A66D5041AE0[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I've tried the quick repair and the standard repair and still no luck. | I've tried the quick repair and the standard repair and still no luck. I still have those 3 categories that have sub-categories that have sub-categories below them. If there were a way to delete those 3 sub-sub categories without Money shutting down, I think that would solve my problem. | I suggest make a backup and run the file repair utilities at File: Repair Money file. I'd do quick file repair first and then standard file repair at level 2. Please let us know if that fixes the problem. Since Money doesn't support sub-sub categories, I'm hoping this will fix the problem. -- "Greg" <Greg[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1DD9DA30-6BA9-444D-BA36-DDBAF318B0E0[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I'm having a problem in not being able to switch from essential budget to > advanced budget. | I'm having a problem in not being able to switch from essential budget to advanced budget. I tried removing all budgeted items from the income and expense areas from the essential budget. However, there are 3 categories that I think are corrupt and I'm not able to remove them. I've checked the 3 categories and each one has a sub-category and the sub-categories have a sub-sub category. For example, Insurance is the category, health is the sub-category and a sub-category to health is prescriptions. When I try to delete the category or the sub-category or the sub-sub category, Money 2006 shuts down. I think if I can delete those 3 categories with sub-sub scategories, then I would be able to switch from an essential budget to an advanced butdget and all my problems would be solved. How can I delete a category with a sub-sub category? |
