Default Re: Shrinking a Money File

I have been using Money since M95 and, apart from an experiment to see what happened, I have never archived. Money will arbitrarily (seemingly) decide to compress your .mny file but I have never worked out the algorithm and it certainly isn't user controlled.

Oh...guess there was no need to archive...

Thanks.

Archiving doesn't achieve much. See http://umpmfaq.info/faq.html#Q95 and http://umpmfaq.info/faq.html#Q29

One can massively build up the total size of a file by doing nothing more than adding ticker symbols to track. So one could have a 100MB file, and almost no transactional data.

I was talking to another MVP today and his file is 93mb with no problems.

Default Shrinking a Money File

I just upgraded to Money 2006 and I archived all my records prior to
01/01/2004. Is there a way to now shrink my money file in size? It's still
at 20 Megs, same as it was before the archive. I assume since a majority of
the data has been archive that I can compress all the open space in the
file?

I tried repairing the file (Standard and quick) and that didn't shrink the
file. Does anyone know of a way?

Thanks....
