| I agree that for the $20 at Costco, you might as well upgrade, rather than worry about being a version behind. As to Yodlee, Bank of America now offers its own version of consolidation,, which seems to work a lot better for me than Money. | Well I have updated every year and started using Money, version 1, which replaced Dollars and Sense, which is what I first started using in DOS days. I never did you MYM although I beta tested a Windows version way back which never worked very well (or was that Dollars and Sense?). I saw the same interface a few years later on a shareware program (name escapes me) which I downloaded for fun and it didn't work any faster or better. You think Money is slow! | Maybe more reliable, easier to use and get the job done. I've mentioned this previously. A few years ago I bought a $20 Black and Decker rechargeable drill. It did the job, but poorly. What a waste of time trying to use that thing. One day I got frustrated enough to drop the dough on a $300 Dewalt 18v 3 speed hammer drill. I use it around the house maybe once a month. It was so worth the money I spent. I do whatever I need to do with so little time and effort. I use Money 2-3-4 times a week, but feel like it's like the $20 B&D drill. Ok, maybe it's the $60 model. I'd like the $300 model and would gladly pay that much for the tool to do the job I need to do more easily, efficiently, with less wresting and fewer bugs. It's like the old saying, "I don't want a drill... I want a hole" (with as little time and effort as possible)". For financial software, I don't want a better version of Money... I was a better picture of my financial situtation with as little time and effort as possible so I can make the best financial decisions. Easier and more accurate tranaction downloading and matching, classes in scheduled loan payments, better and easier report generation and better performance (maybe being able to turn off the CPU-hog features I don't use) would be a great start. Unfortunately, MS keeps churning out the same old $60 version every year, at least the last 2-3. | As a historian, I need to point out that annual upgrades began with Managing Your Money (they were necessary because MYM required annual archiving for tax purposes) and Quicken, when it appeared later, continued the pattern. -- Michael Gordon MVP "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:OrywTT0iFHA.3568[at]TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... - quote - > Somewhere along the way Microsoft or Intuit (can't remember which) started > this stupid arms race of annual "upgrades". | I got premium for $20 (costco) and feel that it is WELL worth that price to upgrade from 2005 Dlx. The major things I have noticed are: (1) No more duplicate downloads of Yodlee accounts (worth $20 itself to me!). (2) Much faster than 2005 for me (17MB file on an AMD 64 w 2GB ram that was a dog for 2005) (3) The "Updates in progress" window now hides if you check the box (bug). (4) Some of the Yodlee matching is better than 2005 so far. (5) Very Nice backup file enhancements - muli-version capability, CD etc. Mark "SteveC" <src[at]conklan.us> wrote in message news:%23m9B3N7iFHA.3288[at]TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... - quote - > I think it is a bit smoother than 2005 too. | I think it is a bit smoother than 2005 too. Was it worth the upgrade price? Probably not. It would be nice if MS would allow Deluxe and Premium users a free upgrade to the next year (2 years for Premium Users) because lately these updates are really incremental. | I must say I have been happy with it compared to 2005. I am one of those few money users ( not essential) that uses every aspect of Money. I haven't seen any absolutely fabulous new features (although I do love integrated incrementally backup to cdrom), but it does seem faster and a bit more stable than 2004. And as premium 2006 only costs 20 bucks at Costco, I would call it a worthy upgrade. -- Denny Browne "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:OrywTT0iFHA.3568[at]TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... - quote - > Somewhere along the way Microsoft or Intuit (can't remember which) started > this stupid arms race of annual "upgrades". | Somewhere along the way Microsoft or Intuit (can't remember which) started this stupid arms race of annual "upgrades". It was probably the worst collective thing that ever happened to either product. To Cal, I have to point out that Office gets significant upgrades on a three year cycle and manages to retain reliability and compatibility. Are the update new and fantastic? | Thanks, that seems to be the concensus. I was hoping there was someone out there happy with the thing for some real reasons that have escaped the rest of us. Why even release a new version? Why not just go the 3 year cycle like Office and Windows, with fixes in between? (Sounds like Money 06 really should be Money 04 SP2). And then give us some new, neat stuff we want to spend our money on once in a while? I was hoping for something new and fantastic. I have not gone to far with it though, it runs like a snail on major amounts of Valium on the one machine I've tested it on. Others are reporting improved performance. Go figure.
