| Loan accounts not included... like classes not included in loan payments... limitations that cost me time and make the "tool" not as useful or easy to use as it could be. Multiple backup files... I have a weekly recurring task on Outlook "Update Backup Files". I add the date, i.e. "07-17" to the end of all my backup files once a week, so at worst, I'm set back a week if the most recent backup is corrupted. I also backup all my docs to a 2nd hard drive on my kids' computer. Once a month, I make a new directory, "07-01-2005", put all backup files in there and start fresh. I keep them at least 3 months. It would be nice to have a date and time stamp on each backup... worth $60? It's not gotten me off the fence so far. Portfolio switch, don't use that feature much and have a 5mbs cable connection. Maybe I'll downloan the 90 day free trial and play with it one day. Quicken has its issues, too, I know. I switched to Money in 03, hoping it would be better. By the time I realized I traded one set of problems for another, I was too far in and didn't want to take the time to convert my data back. Thanks for the input and help. Tom. If it was your "favorite" bug that was fixed, it can be a significant deal. If they added loan accounts to the list you want in some later version, few would notice. The most universally useful new feature IMHO is the multiple backup files. People could keep more than one backup vintage before. Many did, but they were a minority. If you have a good backup strategy that you follow, that particular thing is not going to be of interest. If you switched to and from the Portfolio view in 2005, it would go out to fetch quotes each time you came back. Some did not notice. For many it was a very significant irritation, even on broadband. On dialup it was *VERY* significant. None of the changes that I find significant are flashy. It is not a release a marketing person would like. They are the kind of changes I like, but I can't predict they would make it worth it for you. It certainly is not a case of "no improvement [over] 05...". | Cal, Thanks for the reply. Reading through this NG the last couple years, on and off, you've been a dependable source of good info. The accounts are not watch accounts. In fact, looking at them, all are loan accounts (mortgages and one car loan). I want the accounts excluded from the report so the amounts transferred to that account (i.e. reductions in principle) are included in the report as <external> transfers. (I do this for the escrow accounts related to the mortgages). This way I can know the cash flow of our rental properties including transfers into and out of those accounts. Without the report set up this way, it does not include money we are spending that goes into escrow or principle reduction. - quote - > > MS folks... are you listening? M06, I'm reading, is no improvement on
On this NG... the overall concensus seems to be any improvements in M06 over> > bugs, > > performance and features than 05... > What are you reading? M05 are minor at best and not nearly worth the cost to upgrade. If you can sell me on the newer version, M06, I'm all ears... or eyes. I'll spend the money if I can get $60 worth of improved performance (speed) and at least a couple features that make the job of keeping up with my personal finances and 6 rental properties quicker and easier. - quote - > See alt.comp.software.financial.quicken.
I'll look... can you recap in a sentence or two your impressions of what Iwill find? Thank you, Cal. Tom. | I'm trying to set up a new report and some of my newer accounts do not appear in the Customize > Accounts tab. The accounts are open (not marked closed) and I have the "Show Closed Accounts" box checked. What gives? I tried Quicken 05 and it mangled my data in transition. I think I'm going to Q06 a/o Jan 1, 2006, starting with a file for a new year. I used Quicken from 92 to 2003. It's got issues, too. At least the reports are much easier to use, save and work with. MS folks... are you listening? M06, I'm reading, is no improvement on bugs, performance and features than 05... and 05 was no better than 04, significantly. I and many people are tired of wasting our money on software that we have to waste our time trying to get it to do basic stuff. Anyway... if anyone has a hint on how to fix this, your input would be much appreciated. Thank you Tom |
