| As Cal mentioned, the password request can be due to trying to open a newer data file in an older version of Money. You can test this by downloading the Trial version of Money 2006 and try opening the file. If it opens without any type of "converting" message, then that means the data file was a Money 2006 file. If it does need to convert, then you can look at the file extension of the saved copy (.m14 means it was a Money 2005 data file). If it saves a .m12 file then the data file is Money 2004. At that point I'd confirm that you really do have Money 2004 installed (go to Help - About). If the data file and Money are 2004, then that means either that there's a problem with the password (maybe something as simple as the CAPS LOCK key) or there may be some corruption in the data file. -Mark "Jay Phillips" <[at]philwhite[at]comcast.net> wrote in message news:2e-dnf69krMB8EvfRVn-jQ[at]comcast.com... - quote - > Hi Cal, Thanks for the quick response..No sir, I have never run anything > other than 2004. and the odd thing is that it was working a week ago before > my drive went down :-( > Thanx > Jay > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > news:c2rcd1t13q7db0f92lehjop2mbt3pjd1b4[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, "Jay Phillips" <[at]philwhite[at]comcast.net> > wrote: > > > > > > I have seen the couple of posts here regarding the same problem, but I > > > can't > > > seem to solve this one. > > > > > I had to install a new HD to my system and reload Winblows. If I had the old drive and it was readable, I would see if there was> other than 2004. and the odd thing is that it was working a week ago before > my drive went down :-( a *.m12 file on that. That could occur if somebody had tried a later version. You can try salv.exe level 1 on the .mny file (from the \system\ folder in your Money 2004 install. I suspect it might convert with Money 2006, but I can't understand why it won't get read with Money 2004. |

Anyone have a clue? file with Money 2004. Is there any chance you ran one of those two versions previously -- maybe a trial? |

| Hello all, I have seen the couple of posts here regarding the same problem, but I can't seem to solve this one. I had to install a new HD to my system and reload Winblows. I have my most recent backup and a working file stored redundantly on two back up hard drives as well as floppy. I have tried to load all of them after re-installing Money 2004 but it won't accept my password. I have ALWAYS had the same password, but, just to be sure I ran my file through Passware password recovery and it found the password to the one I thought it was. Typed it in...no dice!! Anyone have a clue? Regards Jay |
