No solution to the browser issue. Also, no way to stop the mandatory
internet connections at startup ... I had to create a firewall policy
blocking the application ... this causes a brief pause when starting the
program (waiting while it insists on trying to make Internet connections).

Thanks very much for the help and advice. I intend to install SP2 (I do not
currently use an NAT router). I just need to finish verifying all drivers
are up to date for existing programs first. Then I will install SP2 and
subsequently set up a router for moving to DSL from dialup, using it for 2
or 3 computers in the home.

I suggest you install SP2 for security. If you are operating behind
a NAT router, that offers significant protection. If you are not
behind a NAT router, I suggest that you update to SP2, apply all
critical updates to that, and then scan your computer for worms and
spyware. Even if you are behind a NAT router, there is still
security benefit from SP2.

All of my programs run fine under SP2 except normal FTP. For that I
had to turn off the SP2 firewall program.

You don't need to restore. Once M2006 is installed just open your .mny file
and M2006 will convert.
Yes no problems with versions.

Only thing we have heard of is that M2006 won't convert a M98 or M99 file
when running on Windows 9x OS.

Thanks for the tip. I do not intend to use both versions after the update.
Therefore, I plan to just install M2006 after M2004 is uninstalled. I
assume using Restore Backup is ok to bring M2004 records into M2006 for
history (unless I want to start over with new accounts and categories).

One other question: I assume all versions are compatible with Windows XP
SP2? I still have not upgraded to SP2, though I have the install CD.

Money 2006 will offer to uninstall the prior version. You can let
it, or you can let both versions be on the computer.

I am curious how you upgraded from M2004 to M2006 Standard. Did you merely
insert the install CD and it prompted that it would uninstall the earlier
version 2004 before installing M2006? Or did you have to manually uninstall
M2004 first and then install M2006 from the CD (followed by importing 2004
backup records)? I am considering this same upgrade of the standard version
(or else upgrade from M2004 Std. to M2006 Deluxe).

I hope you do not mind responding to this added query to your posting.

I'm able to back up on cdrom in M04. I don't think this is new fo
'06. I still haven't decided if the upgrade to M06 is worth it

The biggest reason I will be upgrading from 2004 is the ability to backup to
a cdrom. It seems, at least to me, there is a lot less advertisement
intrusion than in 2005.

Jim,

Sounds like the upgrade seems to be cosmetic although I've seen that it does
have some online enhancements. I currently use M2004 small bus. and am
considering an upgrade. Any other enhancements as far as the registers or
accounts?

Thanks

Default Money 2006 - More Observations

Just bought M2006 Standard ... upgrade from M2004. Running P4 XP-Pro SP2.
Here's what I've seen so far:

On my machine, everything is faster than the 2004 version. (My data file
is 14 meg) .. Reports, history & new transactions are faster.

Interface colors are nicer than 2004 ... (blue shades vs 2004 beige).

Features and options look very similar to the 2004 version.

Immediate outbound port 80 internet connection attempts ... I disabled
everything I could find (all logical options) but still it wants to
connect. I don't use the online Money version.

Mouse wheel does not work in all screens.

I set options to "use my default browser" - on many screens it still opens
the page within Money (instead of a separate FFox browser window).

No money express (apparently eliminated in 2005).

Overall, it looks nicer & is faster (on my machine) than 2004. So far, not
a bad update for $25 (after $5 rebate).
