You can create a new file on the XP machine and/or open the sample.mny file successfully on that machine. But you have a problem when you try to bring a copy of the .mny or .mbf files onto the XP machine. I would try removing the password on a copy of the file on the Win2000 PC. Back that up to a new name. Then I would copy the unpassworded .mny or .mbf files to a USB flash drive. I would then copy the file from the USB flash drive to your MyDocuments folder on the new machine. When doing the restore I would make sure to browse to a spot in your MyDocuments folder and choose a filename that you have not used before such as Gabe04.mny. - quote - > Any other suggestions? What if I bought Money 2005 for my WinXP system?
Perhaps. You can download the free trial to find out. Note that> Would that work? Money 2004 cannot open a Money 2005 file, so both machines will need to have the same version to pass files back and forth. |

| By the way Cal, I did try opening the sample.mny file and it opened fine. Could it be that there are compatibility issues between the My Money file I use on my Win2000 PC when I try using it on my WinXP PC? Thanks for your input. | Hi Cal, Yes, My Money file still works on my Win2000 PC. I've done what you suggested in copying the .mny file and .mbf file and transfering them both to my new WinXP PC but this did not work. I still encounter the same problem: Money freezes after typing in my password. It says, "Converting file ..." and "Working ..." I have tried using several different back-up copies of My Money file and Money 2004 on my WinXP system is unable to open any of them. Any other suggestions? What if I bought Money 2005 for my WinXP system? Would that work? Thanks for your help! | Hi, I have been using Microsoft Money 2004 on my Win2000 PC for over 1 year now. I recently purchased a new PC running WinXP. I networked both PCs together and installed Money 2004 on my WinXP PC. I copied My Money file over from my Win2000 PC to my WinXP PC and when I tried opening it in Money 2004, it froze. On the screen, it said: Compacting file ... Working ... and it just froze right there. I tried several times to open My Money file along with every back-up file I had but to no avail. I have tried re-installing Money 2004 on my WinXP-based PC and I am still not able to open My Money file or any of the back-ups I made. I keep getting the "Compacting file ...", "Working ..." messages and Money just freezes. I am pretty desperate to get My Money file working again because my finances are falling way behind. I've contact Microsoft support and the couple things they suggested so far have not worked. I would totally appreciate anyone who can provide any assistance as My Money file has nearly 4 years of data in it that I would hate to lose. Thanks, Gabe |
