| Why not just set up another checking account in the same file? Her account remains separate, but both see everything of his and hers. Same applies to credit card and investment accounts. Having access to data on Money for the other's account does not allow the other party any real control. The only disadvantage is that you won't be able to merge the two files after you get married. -- "marryy" <marryy[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:82DDA5EC-6DDB-4B2C-9887-F5260339D90F[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > "griffi1977" wrote: > > I have microsoft 2004 and my fiance has never quite learned finances. > > Money > > 2004 helped out quite a bit. Here is another description of the same technique: Create the new account but when you get to the "Assign a financial institution" window specify that the institution is at "MyBank Alice" or some such. Then on the next window you "Confirm the name of your financial institution" to MyBank from the list. That way Money treats them as separate institutions and makes separate OFX requests with separate access info. |

| The new file thing sounds easier. however, lets say i want two users to use the same file and different access numbers. I log in with my user name and password. Would she log in and use a different user name and password or log in with mine and just go to her accounts. with that i see it as something that will get all muddled up and effect things like cash flow forecast or my favorite income vs bills percentage. that keeps me in line and i think it would be good for her. the new file sounds easy but of course if we could log into the same program much like yahoo instant messenger ..you open it up and use your name etc. does she just use her ms passport account? sorry if i am being confusing "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, griffi1977 wrote: > > will go home and try tonight. appreciate it greatly and hope to have you help > > again if i run into a snag. now with a new file will i run into the problems > > that other users are having since we are both going to have accounts at > > bankone. or is that when a user is using one file and has his/her spouse on > > it. > With Money 2004, it is possible to have both users using different > access numbers use the same file. The trick is to name the institutions differently when creating the accounts. So if you think a shared file is better for other reasons, you can do that also. |

Another thing to consider is whether you want to set up two different XP users. That would mean that you each could set up things the way you like. Each desktop, for example, would be independent. If you want to switch between Money files but be the same XP user, the bottom of the File menu will list recently used files that you can choose from. Another alternative is to have separate shortcuts for each file, and that file will come up when Money starts. |
