| Don't forget the debacle Microsoft had with their Passport servers last year or so. Users couldn't get into their own files because the Passport server addresses were changed, or something like that? It was through no fault of their own. | Yes, if your bank supports Money directly. Many do. Those that don't probably are accessible through Yodlee, which requires Passport registration. | Okay, Bottom line, is there a way to download account history from my bank directly to Money 2005 without using a Passport or having my info on MS's servers? Preferably automatically, but even doing each account manually and individually would be okay. TIA, Mike W. -- Mike W. | Yes provided your bank offers a download facility. If it doesn't then you need the Yodlee facility of M2005 which involves MS servers and passport. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | The Passport is only required if Yodlee must be involved, as I understand it. The same is true for downloaded data requiring Money sync-with-the-web. I'm not sure there's any particular reason to be worried about Passport, per se. Using Passport to authenticate access to your Money file is more worrisome. Money sync-with-the-web is certainly as worrisome as you suggest. Despite that, I suspect (but we'll never know for sure) that more Money users have lost their data through poor use practices (forgotten passwords, failure to backup, etc) and poor local computer security practice and implementation than through insecurity of the Money sync-with-the-web servers. Maybe you do want to take it back. I did. See http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm for why. | The box says, "Money works with your bank's website to get your account balances and transactions automatically. No more visiting multiple sites with multiple passwords." No where does it say on the box that you have to use a .Net passport (no thanks!) AND that my private info will be stored on Microsoft's oh-so-secure servers. It even finesses the last point when you try to set it up. I thought that I would open Money, go get a cup of coffee and that all of my accounts would be downloaded when I got back. Then I could sit down and reconcile the downloaded transactions and my business would stay MY business. Is there any way to make this work the way that I want? Or do I take it back? TIA, Mike W. -- The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. - Albert Einstein Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. What if they are a little coarse, and you may get your coat soiled or torn? What if you do fail, and get fairly rolled in the dirt once or twice. Up again, you shall never be so afraid of a tumble. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson |
