To avoid this issue I keep my data file on a portable hard drive (a
memory stick would also work) and connect it to the computer I want to
access my data on. I don't only do this for Money, but for a number of
other programs as well.

This way there aren't be any syncing issues. Of course I still make
backup copies to one of my computers, but I never work with those backup
files.

Hi Dick,

Thanks for the advice but mistakenly I said that I downloaded the app from
the web. I actually purchased the CD and figured out what to do last night.
Thanks for the information!!!

And if you open a Money file on the laptop, then login to Passport using the
same Passport you originally used to download the app (I'm assuming M05--you
didn't say) what happens? This is yet another object lesson in why you
should just buy the CD at the store rather than the download purchase.

I have been using MS Money on my desktop and would like to have this on my
laptop, too. Is it legal to have the same program on both or do I have to
purchase a second copy for my laptop? I downloaded the original from MS's
website so if it is legal to have it in both places, how do you install it
on the second machine?

I have the trial version running on my laptop with the my account info.
downloaded but it is the trial version.

Read Help> About Microsoft Money> License Agreement.

From Money Deluxe 2004:

"1. GRANT OF LICENSE ...
.. Applications Software ... The primary user of the COMPUTER on which the
SOFTWARE PRODUCT is installed may make a second copy for his or her
exclusive use on a portable COMPUTER."

Keeping the data in sync will not be easy, assuming you want to use the same
data set on each.

Default 2nd copy of MS Money

I have been using MS Money on my desktop and would like to have this on my laptop, too. Is it legal to have the same program on both or do I have to purchase a second copy for my laptop? I downloaded the original from MS's website so if it is legal to have it in both places, how do you install it on the second machine?

I have the trial version running on my laptop with the my account info. downloaded but it is the trial version.
