If you don't need online banking, quotes download or multiple currencies,
Money 97 is the ultimate. Fast and very small file size.

Yes Dick, that's exactly what I was talking about. It's been a couple
of years since I tried the 2003 version, so I didn't remember many of
the details, other than I didn't like it at all.

I'm assuming based on long experience that the OP is referring to the list,
by date, that showed every recurrence of all of the scheduled items not just
the next.

Huh? I use a simple list sorted by due date, in 2004. What calendar view are
you forced to use?

This change was made in M02. They have shown no sign of willingness to undo
that redesign. Most of us have found ways to accommodate the change by
looking for the same information in different places.

I actually still use Money 2000. I tried Money 2003 at one point, but
quickly went back to 2000. If I remember correctly, one of the biggest
things that I didn't like about 2003 was how the upcoming bills screen
had been changed. I think it made you use a calendar view instead of a
simple list of bills sorted by date. Has this changed in the newer
versions?

I prefer M04. The main reason that I don't like M05 is that it
doesn't allow you to intelligently handle joint accounts. At my
bank, I have an account, my wife has an account and we have a
joint account. So to set this up in M04, I create an online setup
for my account and an online setup for my wife's accounts.

In M04, it then gives me an option to choose which accounts I want
to download and skip the rest. This is useful because with a joint
account, its going to show up in both my online setup with my bank
and my wife's online setup.

But in M05, I can't skip accounts. So what ends up happening is that
I have our joint account showing up twice. And there's pretty much
nothing can do about it. This screws up my net worth calculations.

Of course, if you don't download transactions, this won't matter
to you.

I use M04. I tried and rejected M05 for the reasons outline in
http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm. YMMV.
