2005 is the absolute worst.> much trouble to upgrade? Should I keep what I have? I've used Money for years (since like '97 I think - the year, not the version), and this is the worst version ever. I wouldn't have a problem with the ads and useless crap they pump into my eyes on every page if it worked, but it doesn't. 2005 AV'ed on me (i.e., crashed), and since then when I click on the pie sections of the graphs, for half the transactions it shows an amount of ##### even though it knows the amount. Half the time it doesn't update my online accounts properly. It seems to get out of sync, and can never recover. The whole program is confusing and overloaded with all kinds of fluff, and they changed how a lot of the stuff worked for years. In the past, it kind of made sense with the categories and things - now it's just a confusing mess. I'm about 3 more 2005 screwups away from moving to Quicken. Yeah, Quicken has issues, too, but all I want to do is download my bank transactions and have my register updated automatically. It can't even do this right. That should be fixed before they pump all this stuff in there that 90% of the customers don't want or probably couldn't figure out. I'll probably try 2006 when it comes out, but if it has the same issues I'm never going to use Money again. So, my advice is if the version you have is working, then don't upgrade. |

| M2005 is DEFINITELY NOT worth the upgrade. I ended up rolling back to 2004 after one week. Corruption with backups, account synch problems, and many other problems also seen by other users on this forum. I have been with Money since 2001, and this upgrade is the worst. I am going to remain on 2004 until I see if MS gets their act together with M2006 before paying anymore money for a beta quality product that now also forces me to route my personal financial information through their services. The lack of updates and fixes, and a support team that doesn't seem to be able to do anything to provide fixes to these critical problems that loyal migrating customers are seeing is very frustrating to say the least. | I think the bottom line was to wait. When 06 is released, a judgment can be made at that time. | My experience with Money 2005 has been negative from the beginning. To start, the upgrade process didn't complete properly which caused the reports section to be inoperable until I spent three hours on the phone with MS Money tech support (the reps were very helpful I must say) to get the installation just right so that it could complete properly. Once the installation was successful, I ran into issues with the automatic download process that created entries in my accounts that I was never able to resolve and finally just decided to live with. The final straw was when Money "experienced an internal error" and had to shut down. Repairing my money file didn't solve the problem. To be honest, I'm tired of troubleshooting and not really interested in wasting any more time with this product. My advice is that Money 2005 is definitely not worth the upgrade. | My due diligence on M05 is captured at http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm. YMMV. | My credit union is on the list of institutions that support the direct statements feature, but only if I upgrade to Money 2005 for some reason. Currently I can download the statements from the website in Money 2004, but this is an extra task I have to keep up with every month. I have heard there are some problems with the 2005 version. Would it be too much trouble to upgrade? Should I keep what I have? -Jeff |
