| In addition to other suggestions, have you looked at 'Preferred Payee Names' and 'Payee Rules Manager'? This will only help you prospectively, not retrospectively. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "Mark Horn" <mark[at]hornclan.com> wrote in message news:slrnd96mh0.osb.mark[at]home.hornclan.com... - quote - > ... > How do all of you deal with this? | Look at : Tools - Settings - Online Services - "Replace downloaded payee names with user-altered names when available" might also what to look at "Show standardized payee names for which a name match is not found" -Mark "Allen Chen" <AllenChen[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1AC74C10-73A8-4686-AC75-B4395002C01A[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Problem is that for online payees Money does not ask for confirmation. > Check out Find & Replace under Tools to see if you can locate these similar > payees and repace them all with one. > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Mark Horn wrote: > > > > > > The reason that I ask is that occasionally, I need to search for > > > something by payee name and the list of payees is extraordinarily > > > long. > > > > > How do all of you deal with this? | Is this true for payees found in downloaded transaction data or just epay payees? Are you saying payee names found in downloaded transaction data automatically and without recourse besides deletion become explicit payees? If so, that's yet another reason... | Problem is that for online payees Money does not ask for confirmation. Check out Find & Replace under Tools to see if you can locate these similar payees and repace them all with one. | Yet another reason... See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=63. I have over 1,200 implicit and explicit payees. Only about 50 or so of those are explicit. Periodically I get the list of all Payees from transaction data and reduce it (in Excel or Access) to unique entries. I then scan the list and find typos and subtle changes of names of Payees as I entered them that haven't actually changed in real life and I go fix these transactions. I also leave the confirm payee addition flag set. I catch lots of typos and data entry mistakes (e.g., Wal Mart vs. WalMart vs. Wal-Mart) this way just because it asks about names that I think should already be in the implicit list. Periodically I scrub the explicit list for payees that are no longer relevant--those get removed from the explicit list though they happily remain in the implicit list. [M05]Tools-> Settings-> AccountSettings(global)-> ConfirmNewPayees Tools-> Options-> Editing-> ConfirmNewPayees will give you the option to not add a payee to the list that you are using one time only. |

Tools-> Options/Settings-> OnlineServices-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames to combine payees that differ only by a number. | Do any of you delete your payees in your money file? I exported the "Transactions by Payee" report to Excel and determined that I have nearly 1300 unique payees, many of which are of the form: BKOFAMERICA ATM #23236538 BKOFAMERICA ATM #43882303 I can go into Categories & Payees and move all of these into a single "Bkofamerica Atm" payee, but I can only do this one by one. The reason that I ask is that occasionally, I need to search for something by payee name and the list of payees is extraordinarily long. How do all of you deal with this? Ignore it? Delete them? Something else? |
