| ooops. i.e., the 12/31/04 reconciled balance... |

| We did this thread back in April--right about a month ago. See http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...e9077a5638440f. FWIW, I still think it's reasonably logical to assume that telling Money to archive transactions before date X should result in exactly that, whether the transactions were reconciled or not. I don't archive, nor do I recommend it. Way too much pain. No significant gain. It seems like you have two choices: 1) What's wrong with changing the Account Beginning Balance in the Account Details to reflect the transactions you added in that were not reflected in the Beginning Balance after the archive--i.e., the 12/31/05 reconciled balance? The "Balance this account" "Starting Balance" is nothing more than the sum of the Account Beginning Balance and all Reconciled transactions. If you want it to change, you have to play with one of these variables. 2) Un-archive. This wouldn't have been easy in April and it's one month harder now. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=29. I doubt this answer will be any better on June 20th. | Around the first of the year, I archive my Money 2003 file and it messed up my checking account to the point where I have to change the starting balance when I reconcile. It seems that Money archived all transactions older than 1/1/2005, regardless of whether they were reconciled yet or not! I could complain about that forever it ticks me off so much. I manually added back the transactions that were still outstanding and if I fudge the starting balance each month, I am able to reconcile as long as I take the "ignore differences" option when I am balanced by my reckoning. My question is can I ever get the starting balance fixed without mucking up my actual balance in my checking account, or will I have to start a whole new file? I still can't believe Money would archive unreconciled entries. That seems like math 101 stuff to me. |
