Things don't look good. Save that file for now.

Check that you can open Sample.mny. You probably hope there is a
problem with that, in that that would show a problem with the
installation.

When you try to restore your latest backup, what happens. When you
do, don't restore to the default location. Instead Browse to a
location in My Documents folder, and choose a new name for the file.

You can File-> Search for *.mbf files. Look for the most recent one.

If you have no success there, I would create a new Money file with
the same Passport as you were using. Some of your information may
get brought in from a secure Microsoft server.

You next would probably want to contact Microsoft support in case
they have a method to get you going. Write down the serial number
from Help-> About... while working with sample.mny or your new file,
to use in contacting support.

I am in fact running that version... Specifically what happens is that I
attempt to open the Money file in question and it tells me that it was shut
down improperly and that it needs to repair the file... it brings up another
dialog box that shows a status bar "Working...." and after it quickly gets to
25%-ish done it gives me an error stating that my email address or password
is incorrect... which is not the case.

Confirm that when you do Help-> About it says you are running
14.0.*.1105.

Make extra copies of what you have onto other media, in case your
hard drive fails again.

Default Corrupt Money and Backup files...?

I have been using MS Money for years - currently using the latest 2005
version... Recently while using MS Money my machine crashed and now I cannot
open my Money file because of some corruption error. I have also attempted
to recover the backup file however each time it begins to "Repair" the file
it stops and tells me to enter my passport password - I do and it just keeps
trying to fix the file and then again asks me for my password... bottom line
is that I have YEARS of data (register data, budget, etc...) setup in that
Money file and related backup file - and it looks like I can't get at that
data at all right now. Is there any good way to try to salvage this data?
