Default Re: Archiving made my file 70mb smaller AND it works

Many users with Imported Quicken files have reported similar problems with
mondo-large files full of who-knows-what.

In M2001 , which I still prefer, I wanted to try an archive to get my file
size down (82mb).
I backup, but have never archived since disk space was never a problem and
"if it ain't broke..."
But I noticed that the file size hasn't changed -5 years of data and still
exact same size.??

I first made a copy of Money.mny => 2005.mny and saved it in same folder.
I then opened money and selected the new file (in case I blow it up) =archive.
I archived my money file selecting all data prior to 1/1/2003.
It did not show many items.
The items is DID show were old quicken imported items -
like Amer Century Cash Reserves - which is now part of an account file - not
separate.
I did it and now the current file is only 11mb.

Apparently, something related the my original quicken import wasn't "right".
All this time I've had 70 mb of "useless overhead".

BTW, in M2001 only , it still takes about 5 seconds to respond when I click
on FILE.
I was hoping smaller file would fix that.
------------------ I copied this new one to my M2004 folder.
Opened the file in Money M2004 - imported/upgraded it - works geat - 11mb
also.

Default Re: Archiving

Set the old bills and payments to not record automatically. That's basically
the same problem. If you are intent on archiving and then looking at the
archives, roll the date on your computer back to the last date in the
archive, open it, and clear the auto-enter flags on the scheduled items.

Many of us simply do not archive. It's like throwing the data away.
Archiving, as presently implemented (and it's always been the same)
basically just sucks.

Default Archiving

When I reload an archived account Money updates all the bills and payments
which can produce an enormous new file if the archive is several years old .
Is there any way of avoiding this other than deleting all the bills and
payments?
